OT: My other project (pics)

Rather than have everyone thinking that my 68 CST was indicative of all of my projects, I thought I'd share these pics...

It's a work in progress. Everything has been taken apart, refurbished (or replaced) and put back together. The car rolls again, but the front end clip is still off as we prepare to put the 454 in there. Oh, and my body guy does have a proper body dolly, but it wasn't on it when these shots were taken.

Please excuse the wet sanding/polishing residue. The pics really don't do the paint justice. My body man is a real fanatic. He was disappointed that he had to use filler almost as thick as a dime in a couple of places.

Some additional shots...

Here's the refurbed dash (obviously not installed yet)...

The gutted interior before refurbing...

My old man sandblasting the frame (POR-15 and paint came later)...

The trunk...

Those are great wheels. Unfortunately, they won't clear the disc brakes that I installed up front. Besides, with that monster engine I'll want to put as much meat on the ground as possible.

Other specs...

Port injected Mark VI 454 with 100% GM forged speed goodies. The last dyno pull showed 420 HP and 473 ft/lb. @ 4350 RPM. Flattest torque curve I've ever seen in an engine! Heavily modified TH350 tranny.

Disc brakes up front. Maybe getting discs in the rear depending on what I can get for the Ford 9-inch rear end.

Completely stock interior and exterior. All the sheet metal has been put back to factory delivered condition. I'll be getting a stealth stereo system, too.

Sweet 'velle!
By port injected on the 454, are you using an aftermarket system?

Well, kinda.

Actually, the engine is a Mercury Marine MAG MPI 454 Horizon. It starts life as a Mark VI 454 from GM. Then Mercury puts this intake setup and fuel injection on it. We've tweaked this one a bit more by swapping out the cam and having one of the Mercury engineers twiddle the mapping.

Here's what the engine looks like in boat dress...

Naturally, we put headers on it and mated it to a TH350. There were some other changes, too. We had to come up with some special pulleys and the like. It's all worth it, though. This engine just screams DARTH VADAR crammed into the engine compartment. All I need now is a bumper sticker that says, "My Other Car is a Tie Fighter"

There seems to be a link between Chevelle owners and 67-72 truck owners

Hey, we've got good taste!

The Chevelle wasn't my first car, but I treat it that way. Here's a shot of it back when it was still driveable (a couple of years ago)...
