Question Tire Conversion for my 7.00-15LT Tires?

Hi all,

I need to replace my 7.00-15LT tires. The tread flew off of one of them. I would prefer to go with a more modern and readily available tire. Has anyone had any experience with matching up this tire. The back tires are LT215/85R16 and didn't want to get something that would be taller than the rears.

The backs are the size mentioned, but say TOYO Radial. Are they LT or Radials or both?

I have been reading that 215/85R15 are pretty close. Is this true?

Thanks again for any input and help. 1965 GMC 3/4 1500 series

The LT means Light Truck.... P would be passenger car (will work on pickup and ride better then LT just wont carry as much weight) ....R is radial ....700/ 15 is a bias tire .. the 215/85R15 is 29.4" tall X 8.5 wide your rears at 215/85R16 are 30.4 tall X 8.5 wide ....your 15" wheels might be a little narrow for the 8.5 wide tires but would match your rear width....if you went with the 215/85/15 on front ..then later went to a 225/75/16 on the rear they would be 1 tenth shorter and 4 tenths wider then the fronts that would look pretty dam good if you ask me.... check this out http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/techn...version-chart/

Re: Tire Conversion for my 7.00-15LT Tires?

I'm not sure, but I think most (if not all) of the 8 lug 15" wheels will be multi-piece tube-types. I don't personally have a problem with the locking ring type if they are in decent shape, and I don't find them hard to work on, but everyone will almost certainly just scream "widow makers!" and refuse to deal with them. (If you take it to a tire store)

I'd probably just toss a couple more later 16" wheels on it. You could keep the 215/85's on the back, or swap them to the front and get some taller rear tires. Here's my one ton with 235/85r16 rear and 245/75r16 front. (245/75 is nearly the same height as 215/85)

66Submarine dig the hard to find C-30 Camper special stepside, only seen a few on ebay in the past. 10 or 10.5 ft bed?

Thanks; it's the 9' bed (133"WB). It was originally a Coca-Cola truck. (I have the original title from '65 when it was new; kinda neat.) You certainly don't see many of them tooling about these days.
