Atlas I6

Anyone ever swap an Atlas inline 6 from a trailblazer/envoy into their 67-72?

I'm considering the swap, and was curious to see if there were any particularly hard hurdles that had to be crossed to make it happen.

Re: Atlas I6

Check out inliners.org, there's a couple they've done in cars, and also check out stovebolt.com, I think they did a chevy truck...

I know there was oil pan and variable cam issues, but I think all of that got sorted out, if I remember correctly.

The atlas 6 would be a killer engine in our trucks! Think they put out 270 - 290 hp, stock.

Re: Atlas I6

I'm pretty much set that I'm going to do this, I need to find a parts truck that I can cannibalize. and then it'll be game on. I probably won't keep this thread updated, as I'm going to use the thread that already exists for my truck.

Re: Atlas I6

I think the oil pan is most def gonna be the biggest hurdle to jump. As I am sure your aware of the oil pan is a weird piece in that family with the front driveshaft going through it. When I was first told about that I didn't belive then I bought a TB a week or two later and sure enough. There is a guy in Rockwall TX. that claims he can reprogram the PCM for that motor and increase the mileage like 5 to 7. So if you get that far hang out at the TB forums and find him, it may help your cause.

You'll have to join and ask if these ever went into production. The guy making them swapped a turbocharged 4.2L into a '51 GMC.
