Crossover vs. crossover high steer?

Well I was about to buy a new p/s gear but thought I might as well do this crossover deal while I'm at it and not need to worry about what direction I might be going in after I hit a bump

My 71' k10 has a 4" lift on 33s and I'm looking at offroad designs crossover kit. Excuse my ignorance but would I need the plain crossover or the crossover high steer? To my knowledge the high steer is to move the driver tie rod above the leaf to get it out of the way of potential spring flex. If I dont plan on ever wheeling would I need the high steer or is there something I'm not seeing?

And also is it a pain to drill and tap the passenger side knuckle?

If your never gonna wheel it then the high steer isn't necessary.
In order to mill, drill and tap the knuckle it needs to be accurately machined. This is the steering we are talking about here, you don't want that to fail and get someone hurt. Take it to a machine shop with the print off the easternet and let them do it right.

If you never plan to wheel, just get the drop steering arm. Best 100bux I have spent.

I thought I head crossover steering helps the steering offroading or not? Less darting around and more stability... am I incorrect? Would I even see any difference if I didnt wheel?

I know the drop arm I put on helped when hitting the bumps in the road and the steering wheel jerking left to right.

You only need crossover if you are planning to do major offroading that will cause you to cycle your suspension fully. With a stock setup if you have extreme droop on the driver front corner the drag link will be placed at am extreme angle, limiting steering. For most applications the stock steering system is adequate.

With a crossover system you will experience more bump steer coming from the passenger side. If setup with good geometry it won't be too noticeable.

High steer is all about getting the tie rod up above the springs and out of the way of rocks and debris, again most beneficial for offroad rigs.

Oh okay gotchya. Well then I will go with just the 4x4 steering gear and call it a day.

We got an 88 K5 4" + 33s. I was going crossover until I found out I would lose the sway bar. On my truck I wouldn't trade my sway bar for whatever benefits crossover offered. I used a drop pitman arm + a raised steering knuckle arm. Once the draglink got level bumpsteer was almost not noticeable anymore. Now I got a pair of flat top 44 knuckles & tie rod with no where to go!

Check out Chassis Unlimited on google they are based in Livermore Ca. They make a kit for crossover or crossover high steer for a very reasonable price.
