Dan, great job on the plates and cover boxes! I'd like to get a couple of each from you if you still have some available.

Several people have said they would be interested in a Kilometer speedometer, so I can look into it, but cannot make any promises. Can you post a pic of a Km S-10 speedo for me to look at? I'm not finding any pics online.

Actually I just realized I returned it because I thought I was going to be on MPH only.

Maybe someone else can take a picture of one. In the mean time i will look for a KPH picture to send.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

I replied to several and waiting responses from others, looks like I need to whip up some more pretty soon.

Just a thinking I would give a little info for those looking into doing this, you are looking at about $100 in parts not counting your cluster.

You need:
S10 speedo, cost about $40 on ebay
decal and template from LS1nova $25 (? i think)
adapter plate and rear cover from me 67c10rustbuket $30

Other odds and ends to complete; paint, (air brush or spray can?),x-acto knife,wire/connectors of your choice, sheet metal screws, dremel, odd sized torx drivers, die grinders, patience, drill/bits, more patience.

To me I think it is worth it to keep a factory looking cluster for an original looking interior and yet far cheaper than a full set of custom gauges.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Thanks guys!!!

Got my decals and the box in. They look great.

Quick question, I got my S10 dash in from ebay and the speedo is sitting at 50. Does that mean that it is bad or does it zero out as soon as you put power to it? I would hate to get it together and waste the decals if the dash that I bought is broken.

Yes, hook power to it and the needle should go back to zero. If it doesn't the stepper motor is probably bad, but that's not very common.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Finally got started on my speedo mod. Got rained out while building my house, so went back in the shop and took apart the S10 speedo console and the extra old 68 console I bought just for this purpose. Just going to use the gauges from it. Have a new repro tach kit that I'll be using for the build, once I get over cutting up a new piece, LOL. And you were being sarcastic when you said pulling the S10 blackface off was going to be easy, weren't you? The box kit is going to be a real time saver. Thanks again for making all these available. Jim

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

We'll, looks like the tach will fit with just notching the speedo backer plate for the tach indexing tab on that side. So far got the faceplate for the speedo made up and the S10 speedo mounted. Zeroing the odometer was fun. Found you had to rotate one barrell at a time while putting back pressure on the silver tab for that barrel, until it rotated back one notch at a time, all while holding the other barrels and tabs still, then put the lock strip back on the tabs. Kinda like doing a rubics cube, lol. Still have to remove the speedo numbers off the new tach lens and put the sticker on for painting. Tommorrow. Night. Jim

Jim,
Where did you buy your tach kit? How much did it run you? Did you have to have your pcm reflashed to get the right signal to operate it?
I still need to get one myself

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Bought it from forum member VA72C10, Jonathon.Couple months ago. Brand new kit, but I'm getting to old to remember more than a couple months. Bought it back in July. Must have deleted my messages to make room, because it aint there anymore. Sorry. I have HP Tuner software on my laptop so I'll change the tach resolution setting as required.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

It's almost done.Just got to modify the needle and wire it up and paint all the faded needles. It does work with the reproduction tach. I had to clearance the cover box for a tach mount flange and screw. Dremel tool came in real handy. My paint came out good, but slightly darker. Didn't have anymore white, so I'll live with it.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Just found this thread when trying to decide what with the speedo after getting a 4L80. I'll gladly buy your kit and thanks for sharing your work with us ls1nova! I won't be ready to do this until next winter now but I'm sure others will find out about this later on too. So I'll try and remember to PM you next year or if the decal/stencil won't deteriorate in a years time I'm okay with going on your next order if that's sooner.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

Getting closer, just have to find the wired light sockets, install the led high beam indicator and attach all the wires.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo

More. The counter weight from the C20 speedo needle, after pressing out the little brass center, fits well over the black plastic center of the S10 needle, and after grinding down the plastic to a small circle At the end, fits inside the C10,20 needle cup. This helped center it and hold it upright while epoxy hardened. Also folded over the little tabs.
