Post Re : What did you do to your truck today!

I received the new windshield grommet fro Steele Rubber Co. , it's American made , good stuff . now I have to go kick out the old glass , clean up the mess and polish & wax the pinchweld so it won't leak when the new glass goes in .

Whenever you're facing a stuck / broken off exhaust manifold bolt , STOP and try this :

Get a large over sized washer and slip it over the stud , then take a gas torch (Plumber's propane torch works fine) and slowly heat up the entire stud until it's glowing cherry red , this requires you to keep the flame moving up and down , all around , once it's glowing brightly , quickly quench ir with cold water from the garden hose , keep flushing it with water until it's cool to the touch , not warm at all , then put the hose away and grab it with some vise - grips and turn *gently* ~ as soon as it begins to move , spray any penetrant and work it back & forth , forth & back , it'll loosen up more and more as you work the penatrant in to the threads .

For broken studs that are 1/8" or so sticking out , or a deal like the one pictured here , lay the big flat washer over and place a nut , weld the nut to the old stud then proceed as described above .

yes , this really does work , once in a while the old ways work best .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Nothin' much to do. Lightly loaded up the bed with my cooler, two chairs, and the fender protectors. Basic stuff in the cases....

I'm not really big on shows, except as a spectator. This is a driver, not a show truck. But in Mariposa (CA) tomorrow, it's $35.
For that, they buy lunch and I get a cool place to park, sit, drink coffee in the morning and my typical soft drinks until we go home at 3:00.

I try to stay back away from the truck so I can hear the guys that go to the shows so they can say stuff to their buddies like,
"...Well, if this was *mine*, I would'a done..blah, blah, blah.....". You know the guy.

Then, again, there's the great folks that just are walking around in the October sun and enjoying themselves.

My woman loves to hang out and talk to folks and watch the people. I'm lucky.

It is very interesting watching and listening to people at shows and just standing back like it isn't your truck, everybody does have a different idea on how to build it. Can't let it hurt your feeling, just have fun with all the feedback.

Sometimes I stand and chat with them! I like to agree with their criticism, and then reach in the truck and grab my hat, and put it on.

Epoxy primed the front clip and doors reinstalled them... mocked up the Dynacorn bed (has fitment issues)...

I will be starting a build thread on this fairly soon...

I had fun with this one yesterday...Not really *exactly* the same kind'a deal, because the guy was a good guy.

I was sitting up against the vendor truck in the shade and another guy I didn't know (he owned the '37 Ford coupe) was doing the same thing. He said to me, "One thing I really
like about car shows is how different some of the entries are."...."Like, look at those." "Both Chevy trucks". "Both in the same class". "Now, which one would you take?"

He wasn't dissing my truck....But the early 50's truck was big-time class, for sure.

I said, "I'd take the red and cream truck." "But only because the silver one is already mine!"

He came up to me later and said, "You know, you really had me on that one."

Made a new friend. Shows are fun.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got my truck started today. Took the seat out, got the fuel tank out and dumped it and put it back in and dumped a few gallons of fresh gas in. Found out the ignition was fubar so cheated and did a little hot wire action and she fired right up. After a little gas down the carb anyway. Also found out how bad the rust is on the floorboards. Pretty bad. Got a lot of work to do,but getting a better idea of just what I'm getting into. Going to fix it so ican key start it next weekend and hopefully take her out on her maiden voyage. Hasn't been on the road in 12 years. I think she's ready.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My nephew and his friend Brian stopped by and helped me test fit my LS 5.3 in my 1971 4X4 and it did not go so well the oil pan bolts are hitting the cross member. The engine still has to drop 2.5" and slid back about 2.5". I was wonding if the big block cross member is wider. I need about 1" more so it will drop down and slid back.

I can't pick, I want both, but do prefer 67-72's. Only had 5 2wd's and 2 4wd's twice each one. Still haven't had that style Blazer yet...yet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Ordered stock fuel-pump-to-carb lines for a 1970 Corvette LT-1. My truck has a Holley 4150 so I needed the y-block and twin lines feeding the bowls. I wanted to do it right with stock-spec parts. Every project on the engine will hopefully take me one step closer to period correct stock 1970 LT-1 specs. Also ordered linkage to convert to real mechanical choke. This stuff comes from Ecklers Corvette Parts, but they didn't have divorced choke spring and cover, so that will come from Zip Corvette.
