patch panel replacement time?
How long did it take you to replace inner rocker, outer rocker, cab corner, lower a-pillar, kick panel, from start to finish? I Feel like its taking me too long.
It has taken me at least almost a whole week with cutting out old and burning in new metal. |

Re: patch panel replacement time?
Each person is different. The other day I put my core support up on a dolly and had it cut and ready for the patch in about 30 min. But I do this kind of stuff all day just about every day. If you don't have as much time in cutting welding grinding and such it will take longer and I don't think you are too far off pace. Jim

Re: patch panel replacement time?
I am replacing the same parts as you..plus several others & can verify it takes a LONG time to do it right ! I stopped counting hours, but it has been more than a month so far.
Weekdays , I don't work too long on it, but on the weekends, the hours are adding up. After the patch panels are all welded in...then comes the bodywork...that's another story ! Keep plugging away at it....Havin' fun yet ?? |

Don't worry about the time it takes. Just make sure to get it right. You can't rush it or you could be doing it again.

Time doesn't matter when doing it right. Cut corners you will see it in your finished product. I know that feeling you just want it done already.

Re: patch panel replacement time?
I just finished stripping my truck down over the last two week ends. I probably have to full days to strip the front clip, doors, kick panels , floors, cab supports.

Re: patch panel replacement time?
I did outer rockers, front floor pans, inner rockers, floor supports, kick panels, and a couple of other things in about 2 months working weekends and nights. 2-3 hours every night and 10-12 hours per day on the weekends.
I'm far from a pro....

Re: patch panel replacement time?
Well, I was only working as my schedule and frustration levels allowed, but for me, it took only 4 short months from first cut to epoxy primer on my cab...

Re: patch panel replacement time?
I worked on the right fender cup of my truck today, the darn thing was about an inch and a half too short! I had to cut loose all the spot welds on the new part and "spread" it out to get the length I needed. It took about 4 hours from the time I put the fender on the rack until I turned off the welder a while ago. That stuff can eat you time just slow down and enjoy it a little more. Building them is the fun part. jim

Re: patch panel replacement time?
I've been working on my driver side. inner/outer rockers, a pillar patch, kick panel, did the corner a few months ago. I'm in a solid 3 weekends . And still need to weld in the kick and get the vent back in. I also started on the fender, and have some fitting to do there... it does get frustrating at times, but I have faith it will be worth it in the end.
