WOW, dude, everyone here was giving GOOD advice...that guy could have EASILY screwed you, but turned out to be a stand up guy. Maybe next time you will learn to cover all your bases before making the deal...LEGALLY you had no right to "secure" the suburban...on PAPER it is NOT LEGALLY yours...So go put it in YOUR name that way it IS yours and for another, the previous owner is no-longer liable for it.

I bought a 2004 LS 5.3 and I had similar thing with 2003 parts. I found out through research that Chevy used 2003 parts through 2005. How did you determine that the engine is in fact a 4.8? As far as I know the difference is the stroke and heads. The block is the same for 4.8 and 5.3

The best way to check the stroke is to pull the cylinder head and measure the stroke. both the 4.8 and 5.3 have the same bore. pulling the pan is not an accurate way to check the stroke.

It is my understanding that you can get the part number off the crank by pulling the pan.

A 283 must be the rarest engine on earth, because I have never seen one for sale.

You know I should feel sorry for you but your cheap!!! You tried to save a few bucks and jump a title which is illeagle. Now it bits you in the azz and you want help to fix it. It was cheaper to do it right the first time and spend a few bucks for your own insurance. I not calling you a theif or trying to belittle you by any means but this can be an expensive lesson that for a savings of $100. or so you did not have to be here.

Now I am cheap??? And u should feel sorry for me???? I can promise you one thing is that I damn sure didn't ask for you to feel sorry for me buddy. I appreciate you coming in at the end of this thread and just having to put in your 2 cents. If you really believe that I am the only one to park a classic and not change titles.....then I don't know what to tell you.

A man 2 hours from me here in Texas has roughly 700 '64-'67 Chevelles on his property .....and has 40 cigar boxes filled with the titles to these cars which ALL are still in the P.O's names. Does this make him cheap? Your just that guy to come in after the fight is over and give your advice.....really opinions! I have been on this site for a longtime.....and this takes the cake.

There is nothing like "I told you so" or other negative criticism when you ask for advice. I have had members here do the same to me. SO much for "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". I thought this place was supposed to help you with issues, not rub salt in the wound.

I have bought and sold cars and trucks in the past that I did not change the title into my name. All of them were project vehicles less than $2k. I could not see spending the money to change the title into my name. I will have to remember your bad experience in the future if trading. I don't really have any advice but I hope it works out for you.

I'm glad this worked out for you it could've been really messy especially if he reported the burb stolen. Anyhow no point in beating a dead horse, whats the deal with the chevelle horder? Does he sell? I'm interested in hearing more about that.

Glad it worked out. I would only advise that you put that title in your name so you will have more LEGAL backing for the next deal...that or thoroughly inspect what you get next time. If something turns up missing and it's not in your name, you have no recourse.
Put the Suburban up here along with your local craigslist and you should not have a problem selling. Have a good day.

ive held titles i didnt switch for a long time. I sold tons of cars that I never actually titled over to me. I dont see the big deal on that part.

Its a pain in the ass going to the DMV. If its a junker thats not getting driven and you may sell why go through the trouble of titling it? The state is just going to give the money to some foodstamps.

It's all about the DMV getting the registration fees the more junk we keep up to date the more money for the government to put into Obamacare.

I did not make my comment to offend you. I believe in this silly stuff called the law. But as a retired policeman maybe you can understand, legally you never owned it. Like the guy in Tx if someone came in with tractor trailors he could do nothing since they legally are not his. As I said I meant no harm.
