Nice project!!! I am building a very customized 59 short bed step side.
I went with a modern pulse wiper motor out of a 94 blazer and had to fabricate the mounting brackets as well.

I don't know about you, but this wiper motor was a pain in the butt! Don't get me wrong, it was fun but a pain with all the angles under the dash to mount to. I hope to bolt it up in the next day or two. I will look for some photos on your build..... I like very customized!

Yeah, not a lot of room in there, I welded mine. I have a bunch of old picture in there, I ned to get more back up on the progress..

Welcome and nice job on the bracket, don't worry about that long bed thing it can be fixed, I did it once already and about to do it again on my daily driver.

Which part did you section out? A little behind the fender and some of the step area?

Or did you cut the back part off the bed and frame?

Both, as I remember its 9 1/4" removed from in front of the rear axle and 10 3/4" from behind the axle, the one I did was a fleet side, my plan on the step is to buy a set of short bed steps and measure the lip where it meets the bed side then remove enough of the long bed side to exactly match.

I do plan on doing a pretty substantial step notch in the rear eventually. That will be a perfect time to cut some extra frame out.

I need to look again and see who was building their own beds on here. It inspired me to build a new bed if I'm going to go with the short bed. Unless someone knows off hand?

My dad once said when I was growing up that the truck was rare with the combination of the big back window, long bed, step side. 1 of 500. I'm not sure if that's correct or even a consideration at this point. I'm going to modify it enough as it is that I don't think loosing the long bed is worth keeping it for that reason. I guess I don't plan on selling it so it doesn't matter if I look at it that way! What do you guys think?

I got the wiper motor installed today. And made another bracket for the back of the motor. Not shown in pic, but it was from the bolt in the bracket @ firewall to the wiper motor mounting plate.

It took a little bit longer to get the blades lined up just right. But it's worth it. That's one thing that bugs me when you see a full out custom or extremely nice truck and it's wiper blades are crooked. I wanted a solid motor mount and tight linkage arms so they will sit right when they park themselves. I like the details.

I thought I was the only one is bugged by mis-aligned wipers on trucks. Surprisingly, many of the high dollar trucks I see in magazines have one or more of the arms that are not parked properly.

So when I had the truck shipped here, the truck arrived with a siezed up rear end. So I searched craigslist for a suitable replacement and measuring everything I could think of and reading what works well with these trucks. I was looking at a disc brake rear end in a 76 camaro. Which raised an eyebrow...why does the read end have disc brakes. I went to check it out and run the numbers on the housing. It turns out it was from a 1980 trans am formula car. 8.5" 10 bolt with 3.73 gears posi-traction. That is why my pictures have the rear end out.

I decided to buy the whole car so I could use the front clip as we'll. got a steal for $300!!!! And towed it home.
