Craigslist find

Hey guys, I was just snooping around Craigslist and found this. Noe I txt the guy and asked him what he's missing and he said it needs front accessories throttle body and coil harness. Now regardless if this is true or not how do you guys feel on about a $300 motor. It's out of an 03 truck. Thanks in advance

Re: Craigslist find

I'd pass. Little iffy on the fact that he doesn't know the mileage on it. front accessories will run up the price more than you think. I'd try to find a complete one.

Re: Craigslist find

its missing an awful lot, and the unknown miles is a huge red flag, I'd pass and wait till you find a complete set up.

Re: Craigslist find

Yea I was a bit iffy as well. I've seen many ls motors running upwards around $900-$1500. So I wasn't sure if even at $300 and missing parts with unknown mileage. So what is a decent or should I say normal price for a swap ready used engine. Not looking for anything fancy just want to make my way over to the ls series engines. Btw thanks for the quick responses!

Re: Craigslist find

Deals are out there and you can get one for under $1000. I bought my LQ4 for $600, but then I still had to buy a trans and harness and a few other odds and ends. Look for one as complete as possible. Transmission included if you can.

Re: Craigslist find

mine was the total of $975 shipped from Wisconsin to Oregon, which was my goal, less than $1000 and under 100K miles. You can get good deals online if you can get shipped to a commercial address with forklift to unload. the guy also dropped the price if I bought direct through him over the phone, compared to through his Ebay department.

Re: Craigslist find

Ok this brings up another question. Im always on Craigslist looking for any kind of deal but when it comes to engines I have a heard time trusting sellers. What is a better option to search for a motor online. EBay? Or is a junk yard the best option.

Re: Craigslist find

I found mine on craigslist from a guy parting out a burned truck. I negotiated a great price by telling him I'd pull the engine/transmission myself. He wanted $400 more if he pulled it!

Re: Craigslist find

ebays very legit, most places give exact miles, pics, videos of it running, vin from doner vehicle, and a six month warranty, even though your gonna void it with all the swap mods. I kept searching all over craigslist, and was getting ready to take a road trip to Idaho for an engine, but like I said earlier, talk to the sales dept of some ebay stores, and you might get a good deal. And they shipped it to me in 6 days from Wisconsin, talk about a fun package to unwrap.
