tell me what you think

Here is my first stab at website creation/modifying. These are my first two "additions" if you will to 73-87.com. I am not completely finished with them yet, but I just wanted to see what you all think of them. I am taking baby steps here, learning as I go.

There is more to come, so stay tuned.

special editions

models

Looks like my aftermaket ads aren't working...I will have to fix that after dinner. (thanks Bob)

Bruce, I might just call it 73-87...no "Jeff's" anything, but I am still undecided.

I will have progress pics up soon, it just takes alot of work doing this stuf...I never knew how involved it was!

I have big plans for the site, give me time and see what happens.

Jeff, it all works for me. If you could get production number to go with the special editions that would be cool.

Is there a way to make the link on the page open with out opening another browser? When I click the link on the page, another browser page opens with the item. Is that the way you want it? It seems like it would flow better if it didn't do that...

No use to say sorry to me. I told Jeff the site was his to do with as he pleases. I have nothing to do with it anymore. I fully expect him to remove all my crap. Why would he want to keep it up there?

I see he's having fun already. Jeff, you just don' know how involved it is. You are just getting started. When you figure out some things and start getting better at it is when it really ends up taking time. This is when you start doing fancy crap and if you have any hair, which I don't BTW, you will pull it out when you can't get it to work right.

Oh, on the opening a new browser when you click a link thing. Just remove the target="_blank" from the link. As a matter of fact, you don't need any target. If you must have one, just put target="_top"

Mike, your stuff ain't goin bye-buy...it might move around a little...but you have waaay too much work and waaay too much useful info on there. I intend to keep it and use it.

Yeah, I think I am just dusting the surface...I can already see what a monster it can become..but I am looking forward to it.

ken, I will see what I can come up with...maybe Kiilew will chime in and give me a hand with that.

Glad you guys like it!

Love the new pages Jeff. I bet you'll be doing articles like Mike did on his part. I also think it's great to keep Mike's parts up since he's done so much research and stuff on the trucks that we all can benefit from.

Exactly my point Brandon...I want this to be one of the, if not the best 73-87 site out there.

Ken, I set them up to open in seperate windows so people don't get "lost" when clicking links and so forth. I still might change it to go directly there without opening a new window...guess I'll have to ponder that one.

Russell and Mike...I am using frontpage...don't know squat about what you two are talking about.

Frontpage is a breeze, especially for the computer illeterate like myslef.

When I said my crap, I meant my truck photos and specifics about my truck. I know Jeff's not going to want to look at my truck and info about it all the time. I wasn't talking about articles, although tlhey are now his and he can do what he likes.

If I have a need for anything I have done on the site, it's still on my hard drive.

Jeff, have you checked out the powweb forum yet? The knowledge over there is like it is here. If you need to know something, about anything, someone over there can answer it for you.

Edit. I could tell by the way the site looks you were using Frontpage.

I would crop the pic of the Billy Carter truck. It looks like the pic was hosted at some point by a host that added a white area around it with a litle logo on the right. The logo adds nothing, and makes the file size larger. I have put the photo on an ugly green background so that you can see how much whitespace has been added around the photo.

Incorrect Mike, I have not been "robbing" them...I already robbed them a long time ago.

I was looking for models some time ago, and decided to start saving them so I would know what to look for if I ever wanted another. Hopefully people will find that helpful to them if they ever want to hunt down a model so they can build a replica of their truck or whatever.

Thanks for the kind words Mike...can you tell i am excited and having fun?

I know the feeling about being excited and having fun. I was the same way. It gives you a big feeling of satisfaction or something. It's hard to explain unless you have ever done it. It's like you think to yourself, man, all these people come to my site to look at the stuff I've made or put on it.

Back when I had the questions and comments form working, I got a bunch of emails daily. You wouldn't believe how many were just from people who wanted to thank me for having it, or tell me what a good job I was doing, etc. It really makes you feel good to think you are helping someone out.

One thing is for sure, it is used. Don't ever think you are wasting your time.

Keep up the good work. If you need any help with anything, just yell. But, since you went to Frontpage, I wouldn't know anything about it. I was a HTML junky.

Well I hope he doesn't remove your "Junk". You have a lot of good tech stuff in there. I have had it up on the CK5 second gen Link post for 2 years because of that.

Great addition with the brochures. I didn't know a few of those even existed. I knew about the feathers, Knew about the Big 10. I knew somebody that had a Gentleman Jim. Didn't know about the rest till recently. Saw the spirt truck stuff posted a couple months back.

Hay did you notice the Desert Fox had a Michigan Bicentenial plate and was missing a rear center cap? LOL. Those tags are getting quite collectable. I have a couple of them.

Lookin pretty good. Unless you get real comfortable with Frontpage or whatever you are using, id stay with that layout.

Any one of us that are pretty web savvy are willing to redesign if wanted, but I think it looks pretty good the way it is.

I used to check my webstats pretty regular. A lot of times to see if anyone was leaching bandwidth and such. Anyway, CK5 was a regular user of the site. I remember a while back, most of the hits from there were to my gauge install pages. It really makes everything you do and all the hard work you put into it, worth it.

Everybody digs the gages. My 75isn't worth it but I am looking to build a street machine blazer or a 2wd pre runner. Hopefully a a convert. I would do the gages in something like that.

I thought about doing it with my 88 Burb but the Pulse deal for the Cruise and the EFI computer is in the gage on mine. If it was at the tranny like the 91's I would use VDO gages. They have one that will work with that set up.

I forgot about the center consol. I have been mulling over what to do on the burb. Just went and looked at it aging. Gives me some ideas. Won'e need the amps and speakers but I need a place for a couple gages and about 10 switches for the AUX junk I put on the truck. I also need something to set a lap top on. I like how yours came out and I think I can mount a lap top off a arm on something simular.
