Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Hey peeps, I am in the process of retrofitting a 97 GMC Safari serpentine hydroboost system into my 67 but am looking for a way/fitting to bypass the Electronic Variable Orifice sensor on the power steering pump. Does anyone have knowledge of what I need to accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
I have ordered the fitting GM# 26009894 and plan on using a older model (pre-evo sensor) hose. Will update when I get the part in hand and installed. I will also post pics when I get my new alternator (cs130d) and the power steering reservoir sandblasted/painted.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Ended up going with a 98 C3500 power steering pump, the A-1 Cardone pump (208739F) had the non-EVO fitting. Serpentine install is complete. Next mission is to work on figuring out the plumbing. I believe the EVO was for rack and pinion steering system on the Astro/Safari vans.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Thanks James. I was hoping to use OEM steering lines for a 98 C3500 (metric)but I have a 76 power steering gear box (standard inverted flare). Had to heat and dimple the frame (67) for the gear box. I still could use the OEM lines once I find the 11/16 x 18 tubing nut but -6 AN hoses, reuseable ends, and adapters are probably the way to go. If I were to ever have a hose blow out, I could just make it up on the road. I will post more on the fittings later.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Update: I have decided to go with -6AN adapter fittings and hose
Fitting sizes are as follows: 98 C3500 Hydroboost Power Steering Pump 16mm x 1.5 -Power steering pump pressure fitting FRA-491963 $6.97 94 C3500 Hydroboost 18mm x 1.5 -Hydroboost inlet pressure FRA-491964 $6.97 16mm x 1.5 -hydroboost outlet pressure to Gear Box FRA-491963 $6.97 76 C10 Power Steering gearbox 11/16" male inverted flare -pressure inlet from Hydroboost FRA-491959 $6.97 I can post part numbers for anyone interested. Went with Fragola fittings from Summit. I believe (1) of the fittings that came today was packaged incorrectly, supposed to be 18mm x 1.5 (looks like 14mm). Called Summit and they are sending another one free of charge, will hopefully have that by Friday. Autoplicity cancelled my order for #26009894. I should have checked GM Parts Direct first, but now that I have the new power steering pump, I won't pursue this fitting anymore. Going to the local Chevrolet dealer is a waste of time because they act like they don't want to help. Last edited by checkmate211e; 12-06-2013 at 10:28 PM. |

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Just browsing and I came across this site:
http://www.tallonhydraulics.com/store/ If you buy a reman hydroboost like I did, you will find that it is almost impossible to locate a vendor for individual pieces (master cylinder push rod, power piston return spring, show piece mounting plates, etc) Wish I had found this place sooner. |

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Here is the plate I made out of plate steel. Really not satisfied with the fit I got when deburring the hole with the keyway, will likely make another one.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Sounds like you have your hoses figured out, but here is an old trick if you need it. Take the hose for the original box and the hose for the new pump and install them. Find a place where they overlap and cut both. Have your local hydraulic shop put a male straight JIC ("bullnose") fitting in one and a female in the other. It is easy and cheap and you can hide it with loom if desired. It also allows you to rotate the hoses some if needed.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
That's a great idea. Funny enough, I am the parts supervisor at my Hyster dealership, so I know we have JIC fittings in stock. Though, I have already bought stainless braided hose and reusable -AN fittings. They should look better and be easier to fix on the fly.

Re: Hydroboost/EVO sensor delete?
Sorry, things changed at work and I was thrust into more responsibility and stress. So after work, I'm exhausted. The cold winter also made heating the garage seem a bit much. Once spring brings in warmer weather, I will hopefully be up to getting back on it soon. Thanks for the interest and stay tuned!
