Changing rear suspension

I have been looking at changing from a leaf to coil rear suspension on my 1969 C/20. I have both trucks here so i can look at them and not have any suprises, but that is not the case. Today i was under the coil spring truck and notice there are "reinforcment plates" are these normal? I have searched this site on this subject and never really heard about them. I got a few pic to show.

Re: Changing rear suspension

Since bolts are not a direct replacement for rivets, why not just roll the refurbished coil frame under your existing truck?

Re: Changing rear suspension

I believe the plates are normal; at least they were on all of the coil spring frames I've looked at during my rebuild project. They seem to be problem areas for rust up here in da north, but probably aren't as problematic down by you.

Re: Changing rear suspension

The frame of the truck with the coil spings is the on that had a misfortune of being in a wreak that messed up the front end. So i am taking from the bad to the good.
