Want a proven combo?? Buy the Vortec block. Swap the cam to a 286XE. Add a RPM Air Gap intake and a 4 barrel carb. I've seen with a 1406 Eddy. Now some nice headers.
1969 C10 SWB with 3.73 gears and 350th tranny with the combo and slicks was pulling 13.1 ET's 1/4 PASSES ALL DAY LONG!! Same as a stock C4 Vette that day!! Hard to beat a deal like that.
Crate for you is the best option.

Um stock vortec heads cant take a 268. You need some Z28 springs.

A friend has the ZZ4 in his 66 Nova and runs mid 12's, and on a 100 shot, he's pulled a best of 11.7. No problems at all.
