80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
http://www.russoandsteele.com/collector-car/1970/67152
Some of you will remember this from a couple years ago. It was found within 40 miles of me and I know one of the guys that helped cut the brush around the barn and drag it out. Some locals thought it would bring big dollars but I don't believe it ever did. Looks like it will be for sale again. Link to original thread from a couple years ago for those who missed it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=411930&page=3

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
In 43 years how much has the truck ran, anyone know? Wouldn"t the gas be bad , seals on various parts dried up etc...

Is there a link with original barn photos? I see the auction photos, but would love to see the originals. The original video is dead. Such a neat story.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
Awesome find no doubt! To think how many of these we all pass by every day on our daily commute .. say just to work and back. Sometimes I think "I bet I passed at least one vintage car/truck just tucked away in one of these barns and forgotten about" Not so many with 80 miles.. just saying tucked away and forgotten.
I know where a 71 SWB Cheyenne BB original one owner, 68 SWB CST, 70 GMC Sierra Grande SWB, .. 68 Shelby Mustang GT500KR (VERY rusty) all just sitting rotting away. It's no secret, they dont make trucks like this one anymore. I hope they get top dollar for it.

It was I suppose technically a shed, sometimes I use barn, shed or shop interchangeably. I had heard it sold locally a couple of years ago and that it only brought $11,000 but kind of forgot about it until I ran into the above posted auction link.

Wow. What a score that would be. It looks like its in remarkable shape considering how haphazardly it was stored.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
Seems odd that with only 80 miles the drivers fender and trim would be misaligned and there are dents on the inside of the tailgate.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
My wife came home telling me about a 20,000 mile 2009 suburban that came into her dealership this week. I showed her this....
I remember seeing a 1967 Camaro somewhere a while back that had the same kind of mileage. It was not inexpensive. I would love to just get a few hours to crawl around that truck and see and all the document all the details to help with my own 70. I'm not building anything near a concours level truck but having stuff factory correct is still very cool.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
some of us can only dream of such a find.
it would be cool too see the tomb it was in this reminds me of a local barn that has two 60's corvettes hanging from the ceiling on huge chains and platforms. when i looked up i thought it was just another loft in the barn but i couldnt believe me eyes when i noticed no way too get too that level. i also noticed that there was nothing attached too the platforms besides the chains.you actually have to get up in the hay loft to actually see the cars. i was showed this.(an sworn not too speak of them) and here i am tellin the internet appaerntly they were put up there in 68' and havent been touched since. i couldnt even tell what color they were with all the barn dust. yes its a big old very well built barn. and driving past you would never ever even think these were in there even with the doors open you still cant see'm it just goes too say that you'll never know what you can find in old barns

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
Blutrucker can't speak for fender but all tailgates have those "dings" they are spot welds that are opposite the intention detail on the outside of the tail gate. Look at NOS and factory painted takeoff gates, they are there very time. My guess on the trim is if you were to reach down and give it a slight bump it would move back into alignment as those moldings in particular tend to "shift " on their clips.

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
I just noticed that in the picture from the auction site link, there is a photo album open and you can see two pictures. I am assuming that they are of when it was pulled out of the 'barn'. I now can see how this thing survived so well. That's a tiny little shed, just big enough to fit the truck in. That most likely saved this thing from the many door dings and things that would have ended up in it if it were in a large barn. It sure would be nice to have a look at the pics in that album. I think that if the auction company knew how well we (or maybe I should say the potential new buyer) all love the history part of a story like this, they would post more pictures on their site.
Also, anyone else see the other 67-72 in the background? |

Re: 80 mile 1970 truck going back up for sale
If your into shortbeds, you will probably never think its worth big money. If your into unaltered collector type vehicles, any configuration, you will know this truck is a needle in a very large hay stack. How much does it cost to do a full resto on a similar average truck? One that needs some rust repair, dent repair, upholstery repair, drive train repair etc. What will be the quality of the repair? Are you willing to strip it down to bare metal and completely disassemble vehicle? Are you using NOS parts? Is bondo in the picture? Are all the parts needed even available? Repopped parts are many times inferior in fit and quality. A NOS tailgate recently sold for $900, must be a reason, they repop them. How long will a restored truck last before it needs to be restored again due to poor quality materials. I have seen repopped rubber floor mats crack after 3 years, while original floor mats have no cracks at all. How about quality of todays paints? I am sure it does not have the same durability as 1970 paint. A restored truck is nice, but its not in the same league as an excellent original condition collector vehicle. The fact is, 10 or 20 years from now, a nicely restored truck will just be another of thousands of "older restorations", this 1970 truck will be even more valuable if preserved in present state.

Still no good pics of it coming out of the barn? Somebody has to have some stashed away.
