Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I have a '69 GMC 1 ton dump truck with a GMC V6, NP435 transmission, power steering/power brakes, and posi. The rearend is a Dana 70, and looks to be original. This truck has a military dump bed on it, and has special paint. It looks to be the gray that was ordered for a lot of Navy vehicles, but I don't know that for sure. It looks about like the color of gray primer only a little shinier. The truck has a blue cloth interior. I'll post of pics of it and the SPID tomorrow.

Does this count? A local USFS long step side truck. First time for me seeing the spare tire lock RPO...

That's funny the Forest Service made sure it came with a lighter.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I like the forest service trucks. We call them "crummys" in my little circle of dudes.
A lighter might look on but back then most people smoked...or let's just say a lot more than today. I would love that truck in 4x4. Same color as my hesco stroked 4.9 liter Cherokee.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Lighter = universal power outlet.
In the early-late '70s when I spent a lot of time on Cape Hatteras (National Seashore) they had the long Stepside 4wds with wide black steel wheels & big tires. I remember the others makes,as well,including Internationals

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Pictures? Sure,I have pictures! Oh well,just these . No park service trucks,though I didn't take a lot of vehicle pictures back then. I guess I figured it was never going to change. Sure seemed that way back then.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I know Ocean Beach! Years ago I was living up north in Fortuna (Humboldt Co) and gave it a shot up that way. Cold and rough! They aren't kiddin' when they say "Barbary Coast"! Cape Hatteras was great in the '70s. The waves are still there,but it has been "discovered" and ruined,IMO,now by development. It's still a national seashore and still nice,but I loved how things were back then.
I need to come up with more unusual trucks before I get into surfin' the '70s any more

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I think this one counts, I think its the first factory K30 (special order of course)
10000 GVW Factory 4WD GMC ex fire truck http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=657077 Some say mistake on the rating but looks like government trucks had some rare RPOs. |
