True. I've thought about sanding the whole truck down with 320 or 600 and shooting the truck in single stage arcylic urethane myself, just so it matches.

Worst case scenario, I mess up the paint. (not like it already isn't messed up)

We've discussed this on my thread but I feel you about the cost of paint and body and also my hatred towards it. I really feel your pain as I am in the same dilemma as you. Do I just rock a satin black or try to paint it myself. And if I do paint it myself do I do a single stage solid color or try BC/CC. The choices we are faced with whatever you decide to do your truck will look great regardless.

I had a good discussion with a good friend tonight. He asked me some honest questions and I gave him answers the best I could.

The truck started out as motor/trans swap and bag job. Next thing you know I'm eating ramen noodles and working overtime to pay for Porterbuilt parts. Then, I got bit by the big billet and brake bug.

My friend basically said bolt it together and run it. Who cares what the paint looks like. He really got me thinking about board member 5150 and the patina paint job using Iron B he did. He got his kids involved sanding and painting ( which I love ) and I think the effect looks really good. It's relatively cheap when compared to other options. And I don't care what the faux patina critics think.

If don't go with the shiney paint option, I think it's a route I may pursue. All in all, this build has gotten way out of hand. I need to curb the spending and finish it. If that means running with crappy paint so be it

I say run it too and stop worrying about it, I told you before if my paint looked like yours I would just run it, heck I don't even have paint on mine so your a step ahead there I'm going to try the find some info on the Iron B paint jobs you are referring too, I never heard of it, must be living under a rock

If the paint looked the same as the first picture in the post, I'd have no problem running it. However, I burnt throught the paint using the plasma on the bed and when we did some rust repairs on the cab and repainted it. It didn't match.

I guess I should just get it drivable, then worry about what the paint looks like.

I think you should sand through the hood and sides and make it look old. Patina it yourself and then drive the hell out of it.

That's not a bad idea right there. I've been lurking on the topic, wanting to give some input but I'm no expert on the topic. Mine was nasty and needed a fair bit of metal work, so I just took the plunge. No moolah for a professional paint job like it deserves, so it'll be my first crack. Three effin years later my cab is ready for paint, panels are primed, blocked and hanging on the wall! I'm chicken to bite the bullit and shoot it all but it's coming. My plan is to start with the easy stuff (tail gate, hood, cowl) and see how it goes before I shoot the cab. Tough call but Eric's idea is worth considering...

You've done a lot so far, it looks great. The paint can always wait, you have done a nice job repairing the cab and it has a nice coat of paint on it which will help protect it till you've caught your breath and ready to start spending some more time on it.

I'd run that paint from sun up to sun down. It's a cool truck running DM and nice motor setup; not every truck has to be a high dollar build. You will turn just as many heads.

As stated previously... if it was mine, I'd roll it.

Nice work on the tubs. Don't sweat the body and paint, it will work out. Just look at how good it looks, even without a bed on it. Those rims are sooo nice.
