Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Pic 3. Since I'm doing some front suspension work, I might as well strip the cab take the bed off and the cab off right?

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Looks like you got a very good truck to start with. Your's is very similar to mine.
Mine is a 54 GMC with a 79 Camaro sus and 308 possi diff. Welcome to the fourm. I got a wiper motor from LMC for mine and it was the easiest thing I have done. I am not familiar with the 59 dash. They must be quite different. Rich my build http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=576185 |

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks! I checked out your build and your truck is looking great!! I'm going to be doing the same thing with my pedals. I will end up asking you for some advice/pics when I get that far. Did your master cylinder just bolt up to the firewall or did you have to resess it a bit to give the pedal enough travel?

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
The mastercyl just bolted right up, did not recess it at all. I used the brake bracket from the Camaro inside. It did take some work to get it to work. I did have to cut and reshape the brake pedal to get the right height. No big deal though.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Worked about a full day on the truck today! A couple days ago my engine hoist came so of course I put it to use within an hour of the ups guy dropping it off. Pulled the engine and trans. Borrowed a pressure washer so I sprayed the frame, engine, and everything else I could reach with the hose.
Today I rolled the engine out preped and painted it. I wanted to go for something different but not sure if I'm wild about the color. Turned out more gold then burnt orange. But it does look a lot better. And....I got a wild hair up my a@@ and put all my planning for this camaro swap into action.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I made this cardboard cut out which is the exact outline of the camaro subframe with special attention to the top shock mount bolt used as reference for the camaro wheel centerline. I then took all my measurements and drew and cut out the outline for the front cab mount on the truck. So if all works out good it will be a physical representation of the camaro subframe used to figure out where to cut. I decided since mine is the later body style being 59 I wanted to move the axle centerline 1 1/2" forward from original truck centerline to center the wheel.
....I have all of my measurements if anyone needs them. And more pics.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Welded the brace across the top of the frame rail. I know it's not much but better than nothing. It's a bed cross piece.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Removed center cross member by grinding all the heads of the rivets and welded the drivers side front cab mount a little before removing the rivets.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I couldn't get this picture to load up right no matter what I did but it's the cardboard cutout of the upper shock bolt and a string line touching the frame at 1 1/2" forward from stock. The first line is 28 3/8" from the leading edge front cab mount on top of frame. The second one is 1" forward (29 3/8"). And lastly the third is where I ended up. I originally made the carboard cut out for moving centerline 1" and then later decided to go an extra half inch.
