Edelbrock 600 CFM Performer installation - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just got a Edelbrock 600 CFM model # 1406 in install in my 69. My truck is equiped with a TH400, and cannot figure out how to get the linkage to work with the kickdown switch, If anyone has photos or a suggestion on how this is accomplished it would be greatly appericiated.

attached is a photo of what I have to work with, The carb on the truck is a Holley 600, The Throttle linkage is attached above the large hole, on the Edelbrock this hole does not exist, the Edelbrock also does not have the holes to attach the bracket the presses the th400 kickdown switch @ full throttle.

I had the same problem. I set the switch on the bench for installation at a later date. That was 3 or 4 years ago.

I've been running without it.

I believe that Edelbrock makes a kit for this.

I had the same problem. I had to get the kickdown stud (which I thought should come with the carb) and I got the universal bracket, but this one should work.

I don't see how the hole marked with a blue arrow can work for this application, the throttle rod on the truck pulls towards the firewall, for this hole to work the throttle rod would have to pushed toward the radiator to accelerate.

Cobalt, Thanks for the links, I will try to get the Mr Gasket adapter, as for the kickdown, it may need to wait, I'm not sure it the solinoid in the trans is working anyways.

I’m no expert, but my kickdown cable pulls forward (toward the radiator) to engage the lower gear, which is why it pivots opposite the throttle. Full throttle = kickdown engages.

In this pic the throttle is back, or near full, and the cable should engage somewhere near this point. The green arrows show the motion of the throttle with the motion of the kickdown. The yellow shows the pivot point.

Is that little box with the plunger on it and the red/orange wire heading down your TH400 kickdown switch or is it the switch that they used for A/C equipped trucks (don't remember exactly what it did)?

A/C Idle Compensator! That's what I meant to ask. Is that your idle compensator or your kickdown?

I don't think that's the kickdown (No A/C here) The kickdown cable appears to go past that.

Hmmm... isn't that an A/C compressor I see over in the top-right corner? Also, wHATANERD says, "the Edelbrock also does not have the holes to attach the bracket th[at] presses the th400 kickdown switch @ full throttle." That's why I assumed the switch with the red/orange wire might be the kickdown switch. The only other thing I could imagine it being is the A/C idle compensator.

The switch is the Kickdown for the Turbo 400 Transmission, My truck was a non air conditioned truck, the Compressor is an aftermarket for an under dash unit.

I went to a speed shop today, and bought the Lokar parts that Cobalt mentioned in the links above, I now have the Edelbrock on the truck, and have the trottle connected, I will be working on the kickdown, and cruise control cables in the morning, when doneI'll submit some pictures, Thanks everyone for the help.

I wasn't very clear... by "(No A/C here)" I meant I don't have A/C on my truck

and I should have added that I was guessing, cuz my cable looks like that, just without those wires and the box.
