Re: 72 Front Steering Bar name??
EDIT: tismy55 I'm assuming you mean the bar that's in line with and just ahead of the axle tube....
x2 - tie rod: only came from GM on 1972 4wd's (comment removed by staff)

Yes that bar right in front of the axle that connects the outer tie rod ends.

Re: 72 Front Steering Bar name??
tie rod.you can make one your self or buy stronger after market ones.if its not too bad you can bend it back.

Re: 72 Front Steering Bar name??
Drag link runs from steering box down to knuckle. Tie rod connects the two knuckles (at least in the picture shown). You can heat and rebend but it will never be as strong as it's supposed to be. If you have oversize tires or are wheeling it, that's an even bigger concern. Best to replace, or straighten and then sleeve it.

Re: 72 Front Steering Bar name??
Well, I know the tie-rod ends are different but the adjuster sleeve appears to be the same. I also know the complete axles themsleves interchange (even thought they went from the Dana 44 to the GM 10 bolt around '76 or so). Just not sure on the overall lengths. I'd imagine someone here has a rig from each era and can comment for sure. Or drive around with a tape measure and crawl under a rig in a parking lot or something!
