I got started on the steering wheel this weekend, need to let it cure for a couple days before I start sanding on it.

I dug out all the cracks, my Dremel battery bit the dust, so I had to improvise with my die grinder and rasp files.


Slowly filling back in... it's hard to get it just right




That's put away to cure and then the real fun will begin...

Meanwhile, back in the garage, it was finally warm enough and I had the time to finish the last bit of metal work and get my doors in primer.

My door painting apparatus.. bailing wire is for backup, it's screwed together.


I'll come back once this dries and touch up the spots where the hooks touch. I got this idea from JMKING (thanks bud) but I didn't want to hang them from my garage door racks so I could close it down when I was done. When I actually spray the color coat I'm going to have to get a longer board, too close to ladder for that, but worked fine for primer.

Yessir it is high build sandable. I've got everything except the bed (saving it for last) now done this way. Gonna fit and fit, then do any filler work, glazing and blocking.

Nice job on the doors Jimmy, are you spraying in your garage and is it attached to your house. Mine is and more specifically it's attached to my kitchen. Just wanting to know how the fumes are. I don't know what to do for mine.

Keith, Yes I am and mine goes into the laundry room then the kitchen. I keep the door shut and just go in/out the front door while the fumes are bad otherwise as soon as I open the door it's sucks it right in the house. So be wary. You'll can see in one of the pics I crack the door a bit, then crawl under to get in or out... using the remote.

Thanks George, I'll have to get a longer board to get out and away from the ladder a tad for when I lay the color, was kind hard spraying around that close to the ladder... worked fine for the primer though.

I bought some of that PC-7 for a wheel fix planned in the near future. How long can you mess with it before it gets too hard?

And your doors look killer along with the ladder set up.

Thanks! Says remains workable for 1 hour at 70deg on the can. I messed with it for a good 30 minutes and it was still pretty gooey. Even went and checked on it after a couple hours and it was still tacky and soft but I don't think I could have molded it at that point. I did this all in the house so it was about 68degree-ish

I was going to work on the steering wheel resto this weekend, but I couldn't wait to get the doors back on and start lining this truck up... so I worked on putting the doors and fenders on this weekend so I can do final body work...
The doors are lined up and shutting great using GMCpauls door seals.. They're top notch. I put those on so the doors will be just where I want them as I'm working. I also rolled it out into the sunshine (it's been a while). after body work I get to take it all apart again to paint it. I still need to fit the fenders better, but the doors are shutting and fitting great. I was losing sunshine in the driveway and wanting to get some good pics so I had to stop and roll it out. Cold weather returns tomorrow. :-/

Looks great man! How's your motivation level after seeing it sitting outside like that? A 10? I pushed my cj7 outside today to wet sand the high build, and something about seeing sitting outside again, lit the fire. Anyway, your truck is gonna look awesome when you get that black on!

My next door neighbor offered to pull me around the block so I could take it for a spin. Ha! Yes seeing it outside the garage got me going. I just got in from the garage a bit ago. Had to at least get one side good and straight. Just got the passenger side left to do then the cowl. My hood is already painted so I'm reluctant to put it on, don't want to scratch it but I have to at some point anyway; so I guess I will, but it'll be taped up big time.

You're making me want to build another jeep with that jeep talk.

Oh do I know. The thought did cross my mind, but I've got a little filler work to do, some glazing, and lots of blocking. I want this thing to be straight! I'm working with all original metal here... save for the rockers, inner cab supports, and cab corners.
