Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
I found some pretty cool stuff. Here are some brochures. And if you google these names (example: "Alton trucks") and click on images lots of amazing things related to transportation come up. They were the companies doing custom mods to truck and cars at the time. Fire trucks, military, cargo, utility, etc.

I'm not trying to discourage anybody from building it, it would just be too big of an undertaking me.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
I am trying to get some more pics of the doors and interior.....Not getting too far with it through....I already stared collecting parts for a 4 eyed crew cab so I think I might keep going with that.

Those are some pretty cool looking trucks. That one is super long. It's like a limousine.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
I'd save it just because of the cool "original" factor but I'm not a huge fan of that back window. Too bad it's that far from California though.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
The guy ended the action early....guess he thought the gold mine would go for more money. He never answered the questions I asked or sent me any pictures.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
When I moved to Quincy, Washington in '90 there was one of the at a local wrecker. It was missing the nose, but all of the doors were the and the body was nice. If I remember right, he sold it for a few hundred bucks because he didn't want to crush it.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
The guy was actually kind of rude to some of the people requesting info. The story was that he was selling the trucks for a family friend. Sounded like he didn't want to be bothered to me.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
And that is why it ended with no bids. If you read the questions, more problems were listed and the guy would be a gem to deal with. maybe he will be more inclined to call a few of the numbers he did not have the time to deal with. Bets are they will give up and call the portable scrapper when the property gets sold.
But it did generate an interesting thread here.....

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
Haha ya it isn't scrapped the guy still has it and the reason he was rude is it was his uncles truck and his uncle was dieing. I talked to him a month ago and it is still there and he didn't want to show me any more pictures but he was willing to sell it to me.

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
I am thinking about building a crew cab but haven't figured out just what to do about the back doors. I have a '64 parts truck with a decent cab and doors and a '65 C10 longbed fleetside sitting on an '84 4x4 frame. I have very crudely photo shopped several versions of these two cabs put together but the rear doors are giving me problems.
At first I thought about just removing the vent window and cutting the door straight down from there, however, I believe I will lose the ability to roll the windows down because the regulator extends beyond that point. Can this be moved or shortened up? A second option was to use the full '64 doors in the rear but I don't like the look of that because you get a big "V" between the front and rear window. Plus there isn't much left of the box in front of the rear wheel if I use the full size doors. A third option I have been contemplating is to use doors from a 60-63 because they don't have that lean back like the 64-66 do, or chopping my extra doors similar to that style. But than you get a big gap between the front and rear windows, at least it looks better than the big "V", and again there isn't much left of the box in front of the rear wheel. Any ideas from the forum? |

Re: Crew Cab AD, Heard of these, never seen one for sale
I've had a few beers contemplating this type of build in the past. One of my thoughts would be to take two identical cabs and place them back to back, cut the rear of the cabs off and marry the two cabs. Doors would be suicide style but roof lines etc would be identical. Then remove windshield of back cab, cut off the second "rear" cab at the firewall, and use one of the cab backs which we're cut off to finish off the rear. Still a lot of work but in my mind it makes sense. Wish I had some photoshop skills to see how it would look. I also have thoughts about adding second set of doors to my 49 suburban which keep festering in my brain. Please shoot down these ideas as a too many beers moment and save me a lot of $$$$$
