Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

Was headed to my g/fs place to visit when all of a sudden the truck started to spit and sputter. I was on the highway doing 110km/h it lost all power and when I floored it all it did was pop and spit I could hear loud poping. Pulled over truck died out. Popped the hood and looked to see if anything was broken/leaking etc. after a few min I started the truck and it would spit and sputter but finally went back to normal. And I was on my way less than 5km down the road it started again and lost all power and left me stranded in the road. This time my engin light came on ( will put the scanner on it in the am) but it took my starting and trying to get it to move several times before it started and had enough power to limp off the road. Any ideas?

At fist I thought plugged cat but there is still a lot of exhaust comming out the tail pipe. Second I thought was bad/water in fuel but I got it from a bigger name station ( still doesn't mean it couldn't happen.) anyone have this issue? It's a 03 4.8l 2wd ppv hoe.

Thanks will post what the scanner says in the an.

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

Has 7 codes

Po137 x2
Po151 x2
Po157 x2
Po131

All 02 codes low voltage banks 1 and 2 sensors 1 and 2 for both. Cleared them and the truck started up and idled hit the gas pop spit dead now won't start. I'll grab some break cleaner in the am to do the easy way to diagnose fuel pump. But would a fuel pump throw all those 02 codes

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure about the codes, but sometimes if you're dead in the water, tapping the bottom of the tank ever so gingerly will get the pump working again for a short period of time.

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

Like amberkalvin said, usually you can diagnose a fuel pump by having someone turn the key and you hitting the tank with your hand or hammer in the center of the tank. Or you can check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail on the engine.

To me it sounds more like a cat has gone bad on you, it only takes one cat to go bad to run like crap. I would unbolt the y-pipe at the manifolds (3 bolts each side), pull the pipes down to create some space and take it for a very quick drive to see if the problem goes away. If it drives fine, time to replace some cats. If the problem continues it is not your cats.

Also, usually clogged cats is a result of something different causing them to go bad. I would look to the MAF sensor and see if it is malfunctioning or is excessively dirty.

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

I'm leaning more to pump as it won't start now but I'll get it in the shop and warm it up and start looking on the weekend. Are these noisy pumps when they prime like the old ones?

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

Finally got around to working on the hoe. Checked fuel pressure and it's 0 so first suspect is dead pump but before I put a pump in it. I want to know if there is any other things I can check to confirm. Thanks

Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

I think 0 is a pretty confirming number, but I would still have someone crank over the starter and hit the center of the gas tank with something to see if you can get it to start.

Thumbs up Re: Help tahoe no power!!!!!!!!

Do your gauges sweep when you turn on the key? If you remove the gas cap, do you hear a build up of air? When My Z28 fuel pump was going out, that is what I observed. Until it finally died, I could pop the cap, relieve the pressure buildup and it would start. The old pump could not handle the pressure build up.
