Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

I see you lore folks gaining appreciation for these rigs these days,so I thought I'd share another great survivor. I think I'd have to leave this one just as it is. You know, there's a whole world out there for preserved examples of American work horses in the antique/vintage truck world,as well as antique/vintage fire apparatus:

Very nice! the only thing I'd change is to put period beacons on it. What a grouse rig.

I want that, it'd go well with my '64 Fire command centre and it'd be the perfect work truck for me. If only I had the extra $ layin around.

If I had that truck they would probably have to put me in jail for shadowing the local fire department on emergency calls. I wonder if it comes with the fireman's helmet?

Re: Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

That is a great truck, just wondering, is it legal to drive around in a fire truck you bought or not. If not I'd hate to buy it and then be forced to take off all the lights and the door markings...

Good eye...No,not good day. You...have...a...good...eye for one improvement that could behoove the truck Maybe more like a period light bar rather than the blinky light it has now. Though, just how it is is the real deal

(sorry. no harm intended. couldn't help it)

All good Special K.

Did they have light bars back then? I was thinking more of that big squarish beacon with the two (or 4) aircraft type landing lights. As you say though, still the real deal. Only thing that gets me going more is the ambulance configuration which I only discovered existed when I joined this sight! Now one of those....oh Yeah!

Re: Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

Those lights appear to be correct from the photos. We have a '74 truck with those type lights on it.

Yes,this was a time when gum ball lights were still used and encased-type light bars were coming in. I've seen light bars with two beacons, short little encased lights on a bar or mounted on a bar off the bed,and full width mounted either way. I have a picture of a short unit and a full size

Re: Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

Somebody really put some time into building that.

They matched the bed rails down. They made diamond plate steps that blend right in. They also added the curved area at the back of the fenders to blend in the rear step... someone took the time to not only build that right but to make it look good!

I'm sure it gets absolutely horrid fuel mileage, but I would love to drive that as much as I could afford!

Re: Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

That's great, I love the craftsmanship on the bed, in these days of service bodies and skid units on brush trucks, you just don't see anything like that anymore.

I just transferred to a new dept last night, I was eyeballing the 88 K3500 brush rig, knowing full well they just bought a 2012 F550 that might phase it out soon. Must, resist.

I'm sure it just depends on your local area, of course riding around lights and sirens blaring would get you attention of the wrong kind quickly, but I know of several farmers around here that have retired tankers that never bothered to remove the lights or lettering. I drove my brush truck around for a while before I got around to removing the lettering, I did take off the light bar from mine, but I do still have more discreet LEDs hidden.

Re: Another Great Brush Fire Rig on CL

As long as you just drive an old fire truck (no lights and siren),it should be legal. It is around here. I would only be taking this to shows,an occasional Sunday cruise and/or use it for what it was made for...if I lived out in the forest or on a farm.
