Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

My 68 and 66 Chevy trucks, she got the house, everything in it, the new Acura TSX and the 2000 F250 (paid off) - which I must say is one heck of a truck. I just wanted 50 percent custody of my teen boys and home to still feel like home for them. (Here is a good secret to keep from fighting during a divorce - give them more than the judge would

Anyway, I took my trucks, tools and left.

Good news though is that I am dropping this engine in, this was a test fit, going to pull it back out and paint the engine compartment. Started it up with straight headers in the garage and almost had a coronary it was so loud. Bought the engine for 1000 in a crate off craigslist. Not sure if its bored to be a 383 stroker or just a 355, I was really only looking for around 300 horses but with the edlebrock 650 its giving more, I could just feel it.

Now my question, what do you all think about running the new exhaust out in front of the rear tires in a long bed, is it done much? Can it cause carbon monoxide concerns in the winter? Thanks for the help!

P.S. I found a 67 4 wheel drive step side 6 cylinder that runs, he will sell it for 1700, should I take the plunge again? This last truck nickle dimed me to death.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

I'm sorry to hear about your situation man, I have been there myself. What I always asked myself, .. "Would I be happier alone?" When I could say yes it was time to go.

My vote on the exhaust would be to run it on over the axle tube and turned down right behind the rear tire. Especially with a fairly hot motor I have found you get less cracking and popping not to mention CM fumes and drone with them in front of the axle. Just my .02

Keep your head up brother. It gets better with time

Sorry to hear about your situation. But it is what it is. Did a similar thing back in the day. As far as the exhaust, I'm in for having it go out behind the tires. In front doesn't look right.

Same situation with my divorce I gave away a brand new SUV and kept my 69 Chevy . I went with joint custody . I stayed active in my kids life and schools . We legally have joint but the kids primarily with me . People told lies etc to my kids but as they got older they saw the truth . Good Luck

Women can be evil ,,, a good woman is the best thing on earth a bad women is the worst thing on earth. Always the same story only the names and faces change , I like the exhaust to exit behind the wheels also ! My son ran his exhaust out in front of the rear tires on his 68 it is too loud on a long trip but sounds good for short trips ,,

WOW that stinks but at least you have what you want out of it. My kids heard lies too but now they have to rethink things.
Now your free to do whatever you want! This time will be better you will make sure of that.
Exhaust- I drag mine all the way out nowadays. Headers and header mufflers when I was young.
Now I get to do what I want to my truck and she loves it too. SCORED!
She looks cute driving it too. So I will build her one.
Good luck with your new life and your truck.

Been there and glad it's over. I would go with Rat's advice. That's how mine are and I like that setup the best.

Sorry to hear about your marriage....its always a real bummer at the time of the event, but it gets better again over time...that you have to know.
Remember take care of yourself first, your kids second...and your truck third. Get some other good habits underway for yourself and the 'bounce back' will come way faster and smoother. (ie: fitness, diet, sports, good friends....avoid the cigs, the booze, the greasy food stuff).
The truck looks good, the exhaust in front of the tires will not cause carbon monoxide poisoning...unless you run it in the garage with the door closed...LOL...and don't do that.
Get the truck on the road asap...that is a big important hurdle in my opinion.

Very Best of Luck to you in your new direction and future!!....it does get better.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

Wow-thanks everyone. I was one of those - That won't ever happen to us - kind of guys. Started a business that took off and bam, I was so busy fighting barriers in front of me I didn't look behind. BUT, I am happier and free now. I was not happy before. Just hearing from all of you helped a ton. Nothing like walking alone in a city to depress ya. Kids only hearing one side and I refuse to be the one to tell them what their mother did so I look like the bad guy who left. They will figure it out when they are older. I have only learned one thing in life:

When things are good - embrace it and recognize it at the time, live in the moment because it will become hard one day, and

When things are bad, gut up and push through because it will get better. Oh and..

Chevy is just better.

Anyway, thanks for the support. This engine has iron vortec heads and some other goodies, no use scrimping now, out the back it is. Thanks everybody.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

Sorry to here that brother trucker. Been there myself. After 9 years, I couldn't take her jelousy and mine mine mine attitude anymore. Thank god we didn't have young n's. I packed up my few belongings I had before we married and I left. I left my old 50 pickup there till I could make arrangements to get it. It had no brakes so it had to be towed. I got a call from my new roommate that she had called him and said she had it towed to a scrap yard. Little did she know, I knew the tow truck driver. He saw my name on some parts catalogs in the cab so he towed it to his house. I called him up and he brought it to where I was staying. I called her and told her I got it back. She wasn't happy at all and demanded that I return one of her cooking pots I took. I agreed to leave it on her front porch while she was at work. I accidently drilled a smiley face in the bottom of it. Over christmas, my mom talked to a family friend that ran into her. They told my mom she is still bad mouthing me 23 years later. My wife I have now, I met on a blind date thru some friends. 6 months after we met, we married. July will be 21 years and she loves my old car and truck addiction. As for exhaust, I prefer straight out the back but thats just my opinion.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

wow-what a story. I have been doing my best to not take the bait when she does things designed to hurt but it is VERY hard. At least on paper my truck, being a long bed, was not worth much. My 66 327 4 speed also showed as 3000 so I didn't get much push back.

Working on my truck has been the best therapy I could have.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

As they say, the best revenge is living well. 22 years ago let's just say I was ensnared, I tried to do the right thing, what a man should do, I then walked the line for many years. Nobody's perfect but I am loyal and faithful to a fault, so when what happened occurred, I had no choice but to hit the bricks. Some things just cannot be allowed. I did find a great house with an indoor shop that was built by a guy who really knew how to put a shop together.

The mother of my daughters hid all the letters I wrote them in a shoe box under her bed and told them I never wrote because they were the reason I left. They ended up finding the shoe box and the letters. They are grown with children of their own now and have very little to do with their mother.
What goes around comes around.

Either way you run the exhaust will work fine.

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

....yeah its funny about women sometimes and how incredibly mean and competitive many of them are despite the 'soft' appearance.
I am very happily married and my wife, who is really great, is also quick to comment on how incredibly opportunistic, sly and mean spirited many women are at heart...all this from an 'insider' LOL.
Anyways, what gives that in the female gender?
Its interesting, she tends to be a lot more comfortable socially around guys than the women....she has 3 brothers, no sisters, so she is used to a 'guy household' in many respects.
The women are always...and I mean always, competing with one another. Shoes, clothes, guys, stuff, cars....often complete marketing victims for some reason, definitely their achilles heel.

All Good

Re: Just got divorced after 22 years, I kept

Most exhaust shops dont know how to run exhaust out the side in front of the rear wheels correctly. Dont let them talk you into 2 inch pipe. Turns downs in front of the rear axle or just behind it sounds good. But again, dont let them talk you into 2 inch pipe. If anyone tries to tell you that you will lose torque with 3 inch exhaust, tell them you are sorry but you are looking for a professional exhaust shop, wish them a good day and try the next one.

Split with the wife about 2 months ago myself. Don't really want a divorce but its looking more like it now.

We would have been married 30 years this May but I have been tired of a lot of crap for several years now.I know I'm not perfect either but a man gets tired of things after a while. Hope it gets better for ya.
Exit the exhaust behind the tires.
