Who's got stock dashes and aftermarket guages in them??
I want to put some Autometer ultralites in my truck. Trying to decide on the stock dash vs a custom dash. Please post any pictures you have. Did you have to do major surgery on the dash to make the gauges fit? How did you actually mount the gauges to the dash? How was the wiring?
I've been thinking about the Covan dash but would like to save some $$$. Covans Classic Thanks in advance

I put some cheap Sunpro's in my dash....works great. You just have to remove the stock guages, slice the lens and black metal part with a hole saw, remove the plate on the back of the dash (screws right off), and hold the guages in with the monunting hardware provided. Wiring was pretty easy....i just wired all of the hot wires for the backlighting together, and the grounds together and hooked them up. The guages were mechanical, so all it took was a sending unit, except for the voltmeter witch only took a single wire i put to the IGN UNFUSED terminal on the fusebox.
Pretty easy job and only cost $25 for a new bezel form Rick's and $30 for the cheap guages....of course the Autometers will cost more but you can still do it for pretty cheap

I got some of my gauges for xmas and will order the rest soon! I am doing the full autometer treatment mounted from the rear! I got the tach and speedo just 5 more to get. I should have already ordered them but I was waiting for the xmas dust to settle in my check book!

Autometers
Mounted from the front. Small amount of trimming to the bezel. Instructions for all the wiring and using the fuse box.

They don't come in a kit. The best thing to do is go to the Autometer website. They have all the guages there and part numbers.

Here's some info about the gauges I am using:
These gauges are AutoMeter's Phantom series. I bought the tach and speedo in 5" size. Of course the tach is electric but I had to go with the mechanical speedometer as I have a manual tranny. It will use the existing speedo cable. I went with the smaller gauges in 2 5/8". I am using a quartz clock and then an electric temp guage, I believe there are only electric fuel guages so that is what mine is and then of course the voltmeter is electric. The fuel gauge can work with the stock sending unit. I am having a custom tank built and it will use a correct ohm sending unit. The gauges are illuminated. They give two covers for the lights, can't recall what colors they are. For the original tach hole I went with a 3 3/8" oil pressure gauage that is mechanical. The gauges that require sending units, other than the fuel gauge, come with sending units. The gauges come with attachment brackets that look like they should work very well if you are going to attach the guages with the bezels on the outside of your instrument panel. I'm not sure how people attach them when they install them totally behind there panel. Mudder67 walked me thorough the wiring issues as he has done a great setup on his truck.

Here is mine.. A mix and match.
Factory speedo, Autometer tach, 80's LeSabre gas gauge, and VDO gauges for oil, water, volt, and clock in the lower holes. Wish I could say I done it, but I got it form another board member who did all the hard work.

here's mine
I used 2 1/16 guages for the small ones, and used a dremel to open it up a little for the 5" guages, so they were sunk in a little. I used 2 6 wire trailer harnesses for a connector, so I can quickly remove the dash if I need to. |

I ordered my No Limit dash a couple days ago.. Autometer Ultra Lites with a billit dash panel.. Cost me a good 645 bucks but hey..

Yea thats a combination vacuum/boost gauge in the middle. I used a different approach. Put the 200 mph speedo, 10 k tac and boost gauge and the motor will follow I did work on a ram air system that pulls air from the cowl was hoping to see a little bit of boost.
