not starting-no power to starter selenoid
Well the title pretty much sums it up
Yesterday I moved my truck (70 gmc) to leval ground to top off the fluids Went to start it up to move it and nothing happened Thought it might have been the ignition switch so I bought a new one and put it in and nothing. (Acc-on) work fine but nothing when you turn it to start. I'm getting power to the (remote ford style) selenoid (then down to the starter) but the power wire from the ignition to the selenoid is not getting power(when turning the ignition) At the selenoid or the little black junction box. Any ideas? Thanks

Automatic? Are you still using the neutral start switch? If so that's where I would start. You can unplug the connector with the two purple wires from it and insert a jumper wire and see what it does. Be sure the shifter is in park or neutral depending on which trans you have. LockDoc

Yes its a automatic. Th350 Were is the switch located? What is its purpuse. The last few weeks I have noticed it has been hard to shift into park if that has anything to do with it.

As far as the hard shifting, put the gear selector in neutral (Hold the brakes or block the wheels) and spray some penetrating oil (not WD-40) into the column around the gear shift lever. Let it sit a couple of minutes, then pull the shift lever up towards you then push it back down towards the dash, do this three or four times then try shifting it into park and see if it made a difference. You may have to go through this procedure three or four times but it should loosen it up so it shifts into park easily. LockDoc

Re: not starting-no power to starter selenoid
Does the shift indicator stay centered on what ever gear you select? In other words when in reverse is the pointer directly centered on the P? R? D? ect if not then you should readjust the shift linkage.

There are two 1/4 or 5/16 inch screws that hold it to the column tube. They can be kind of hard to get to and a nut driver or 1/4 drive ratchet works best to remove them. Be sure and unplug the connector from the switch first. Yes, any auto parts store should have them or be able to get them. LockDoc

From what you're describing it definitely sounds like that could be your problem. Since you say your reverse lights are sometimes on when in park, it might just be that everything just needs to be adjusted though. It might just be out of adjustment enough to give you the starting problems. The purpose of the switch, is to keep the vehicle from starting while in gear.

Re: not starting-no power to starter selenoid
How i did mine was put the truck in reverse(truck not running) then moved the switch untill the reverse lights worked then tighten and put back in park and seen if it would start.

Re: not starting-no power to starter selenoid
thanks everyone, the neutral safety switch was the problem. when I unbolted it I noticed plastic slider part on the old switch was broke and it was sitting in the first gear position.
