yesterday i went and picked up a 5.3 engine and trans 4le60 with a 130k, has full harness minus the ecu and mass air, this really has every wire that goes to the motor and trans still on it....holy crap thats a lot of wire!!! but where the heck do i start??? oh and i got the whole thing for 1200 bucks

I would think that figuring out how you are going to control it. With no ECU, you are looking at some kind of aftermarket unit.
I'm sue that there are guys who have done this who will have specific ones to recommend.

I'm going to order one, once it comes in I'm going to send it off to get the wiring harness cut up and get it tuned for my truck

well i got the harness of the new motor, started getting my old engine tranny out, then there was rain!!! dang it

i bought a 2004 5.3 and 4le60 trans yesterday, has the whole harness, no ecu, or pedal or mass air, I've already ordered the pedal, been looking into getting a ecu, and mass air sensor and air box. I'm looking for advice....looking for companies to send my harness and ecu (once i get it) to get chopped up and tuned, and any other advice as to stuff i might need, and was wondering if i can use my transfer case...i have a np208 or if i could buy a adapter and use a stock one from a 2004 chevy? this is my first swap and trying to make it as painless as possible

The transfer case from an '04 is not going to work in your '84. It would have what is known as "driver's side drop". Meaning that the out-put for the front driveshaft is on the driver's side, plus it would have an odd out-put because it is intended to fit a "fixed" differential of an independent suspension.
Yours needs passenger's side drop, but mating it to a regular rear wheel drive transmission may be tricky or at least costly.

id heard of adapters to hook my 208 to the newer trans, and id also seen something somewhere where someone was able to use the newer transfer case...the second statement may have been from reading sooooo much on these swaps...trying to do this sooner than later haha...hate seeing my truck on blocks

you can use the adapter fromt he 04 on the 208 yes. it should be between the 04 trans and transfercase. bolt that to the 208. also to op theres a list of things on the net of what all you can cut out of the harness. just need to get the wiring diragram.



the thing on the back bolts to a 208/241 along with the newer tcs which are lsd 241s.

now on to using a new transfercase it can be done too but you need a left side drop axle. a ford axle and its pretty much a bolt in. me though id keep the 208.

I would keep the 208 too, for several reasons.
First and foremost, you already have it
You can keep your original driveshafts and shifter.
You can skip the "adapting" for the front driveshaft and all of the wiring that would be required to make the later model unit shift.

i like your way of thinking....would now be a good time to have it rebuilt? it works fine but has a lot of miles on it (i think) at least a 40k, thats about how many miles I've put on it

if its doing ok i cant see the point. just change the fluid.

40K is not bad, if they are not abusive miles. Don't fix what isn't broken......you already have enough to do.

got to remember i said ATLEAST 40k lol, could be a 140, 240, who knows...but i aint messing with it til i have to...now i gotta think about fuel delivery

Hey Sgt, Check out my build thread I'm doing a 5.3 swap right now. My set up is going to be 5.3/4l80e/np241.

Most companies are going to charge you about $700 bucks to do the harness but my buddy does them for less than $300 and he's doing mine. Shoot me a PM if you want his contact info.

very well....electrical and rain...no good combo haha

i just checked out your build...looks really good man...im going with the traditional swap, bone stock look...for the most part....never done this before so I'm sure it'll looked a little jacked up
