Will 67-72 stepside fenders fit a 73-87 stepside box?
I've looked all over to find a definitive answer, but could not find it.
My stepper has a 73-87 bed on it from the PO. I personally do not like it. I picked up a 67-72 bed that has good fenders for a song, but the rest of the bed is pretty shot. Will the 7-72 fenders bolt directly on to the 73-87 bedsides? Will I need to drill no holes? If not, the 67-72 bed is repairable. but will require quite a bit of work. Any info is appreciated. |

I think the bedsides are the same. When you have trouble with finding some of that stuff go to the home page and look at the truck tech section and the FAQ section has a bunch of great thing in there and there is one in there about this very topic. I just don't remember witch on of those it is in. Jim

Thanks Jim, I searched the site, look through tons of stepside threads and couldn't locate anything. I'll go follow you're advice and see what I can find.
Thanks Again! |

Ok, I've looked all through the FAQ, and Truck TECH section, and I cannot locate anything. It is possible that the search terms I use are the problem. I've searched on Stepside, step side, bed, bedside and fender. I've done searches from within the sub forums, as well as whole site searches, and I fail to come up with anything.

Ok, go up to the top of the page, on the blue stripe on the banner on the bottom of that click home. After that in the first set of boxes on the left hand side of the screen click on tech tips. Then go to 67-72 section. On page 5,11 post from the bottom , is a post about using a 73-87 bed on a 67-72 truck and how to convert the stuff to make it right. I'm sorry I can't do that link thing and make peoples lives easy I am just amazed that I can turn the thing on. I never had to deal with one of these boxes much before nor did I ever learn to type until just recently. Jim

From what I've seen -- as a '68 Stepside owner. The beds are the same. The tailgate is definitely the same. The Steps are different. '67 -'72s have good running boards, the Squarebodys cheat you out of them. The rear fender mounting holes for a '73 -'87 may be in different places than on the '67-'72s.

Jim, again, thank you. I specifically searched that subforum, that thread did not come up.
I greatly appreciate your help! Chryss |

They are different in the front where the steps mount. WES

From the thread Jim lead me to, it looks like the modifications needed are not too difficult.

Re: Will 67-72 stepside fenders fit a 73-87 stepside box?
I bought a 68 stepper and it had some mis alignment on the rear fenders but didnt think any thing of it cause it was such a good deal, come to find out after months of scratching my head trying to figure out why the wells wouldnt line up over the fenders, and no holes matched up and steps wouldnt work, I had 68 fenders on a 74 bed..I have since picked up a 69 bed and in the process of doing the body work, I am from new england...but long story short, dont even bother its too far off and will take quite of bit of modifying

I don't know what your budget is, but Mar-K makes brand new, USA made bedsides for the stepside trucks.

Re: Will 67-72 stepside fenders fit a 73-87 stepside box?
Yeah, they are outside my budget. =) This is just going to be a driver. I will be buying new angle strips from them though. These are the major repair areas, other than the angle strips, that I cannot just replace with a part form the other bed.
While the bed is in rough shape, it cost me $75.00 and a couple hour round trip to get. I figured for the fenders alone it was worth it. Chryss |

Re: Will 67-72 stepside fenders fit a 73-87 stepside box?
Looks like I'll be modding the other Bed. When I started removing the rotted angle strips, the bed sides on the inside are all heavily pitted. I'd have to cut and make all new bed side bottoms.
If I had more money than sense, I'd just buy new bedsides, but as it is, I have neither money or sense. =) |
