Use 3/4 ton disc brakes on 1/2 FRONT axle?
My 70 blazer has factory drums. Yay me. I have 3/4 front and rear axles sitting around and was wondering if it was just as easy as getting new rotors to swap in. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
This is my donor setup. |

Re: Use 3/4 ton disc brakes on 1/2 FRONT axle?
You cant just swap the brakes from the k20 axle onto the blazer axle. if it is drum brake, it should also be closed knuckle and they are a totally different animal. there have been people that have swapped disks onto a closed knuckle axle, but if you have the open knuckle axle the effort would be wasted in my opinion. the closed knuckle axle is weaker and harder to find parts for. it also doesn't have as good of a turning radius. if you are intent on keeping the 6 lug bolt pattern, you can use hubs and rotors from an open knuckle 6 lug front housing on the 8 lug dana 44. that is a direct swap.

1970 would be an open knuckle. But you can swap the 1/2 ton brake parts onto the axle for sure. I'm not positive about the 3/4 spindle using the same bearings etc. But I swapped 8 lug parts onto my factory 1/2 ton '72 axle and it worked fine. I use an '86 10 bolt as the donor.
