Keyless Entry

Hi guys, I recently picked up a '95 K2500. This truck was not factory equipped with the keyless entry, I know this from checking the SPI sticker in the glove box.

My question is...Has anyone ever added an OEM keyless entry system? As far as I can tell the system pretty much just consists of the keyless entry module (receiver), the harness for it, and the remote.

I know where the keyless entry module would normally mount under the dash, since I've replaced them before, so I looked around that area and didn't see any loose connectors that would go to a keyless entry module, but maybe its taped up somewhere that I can't see.

I'm really only interested in adding an OEM keyless entry system, not any aftermarket options that require a lot of wire splicing and quit working after a few years anyways.

If anyone has any info about this it would be much appreciated

Re: Keyless Entry

Anybody?

Anyone have opinions on the best aftermarket keyless entry system?

Here is a start http://www.commandocaralarms.com/keyless-entry.asp
cheaper if you have power door locks in the truck.

Unfortunately that does little to help is quest of using OEM components.

Would also need a way to interface to the power door locks solenoids. Since the PCM does NOT control door locks, it would have to be wired into it.

You can access the schematics for your truck either in a library, or dealers like ours here let you copy the shop manuals. If you don't want to actually purchase your own copy.

You could also search vehicles in junk yards for components needed.

Re: Keyless Entry

OEM keyless entry was not a option in 1979.
Using a later OME and trying to mate could work but will require the use of a BCM and a matched receiver and key fobs and a fair amount of time.
That's why I posted the link for an idea to use aftermarket keyless system as its straight forward to use.

Yeah we have plenty of 88-98's in junkyards around here, but the thing I'm not certain about, and afraid of is that the wiring for the keyless entry system is a part of the whole dash harness, and that would be quite a bit of work removing the whole dash harness for keyless entry.

But I don't have access to a truck with OEM keyless entry to see if the keyless entry wiring is a separate harness or not.

Re: Keyless Entry

They aren't going to make a different harness for trucks with and without power door locks. The harness will have the connectors on it but won't be used. Look at a vehicle with components in place and then verify it on your vehicle. Then go back and buy the components.

I've wondered that, because I've seen trucks without a/c that still have all of the a/c wiring but the connectors are unused and taped up with the harness. I briefly looked under the dash of my truck for the two connectors for the keyless entry module but didn't see anything. Ill have to spend some more time under there and find them.

Re: Keyless Entry

It is a separate harness but it is also part of the PW harness, but I doubt that you have the connectors for the keyless. The RKE added a relay that regular 2 door pickups did not have.

I am working on installing factory RKE in my 1989 Sierra. Because i do not do aftermarket parts and the only mods that are not GM are the rear view mirror and the Jeep steering shaft.

By PW you mean power window harness?

My truck does not have the connectors for the RKE module, I've looked multiple times.

What route are you taking for installed RKE in your Sierra? Getting a used power window harness and installing it in your truck?
I have no problem with aftermarket parts, just with aftermarket keyless entry systems

Re: Keyless Entry

You won't need to wire the power window part of the harness in, just the locks, so you can leave that part alone.

Here's the RKE wiring diagram so this will help tremendously.

I got the relay from an S10 Blazer and using the RKE module from a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix and tying in to the factory harness. I've almost got it done, just a few bugs to work out.

Re: Keyless Entry

Ok. So you went ahead and made your own harness to add on rather than trying to swap out your existing harness.
