Re: Where is your spare ?
Good question ...
I presently have no spare but plan on putting a spare under the bed like it came from the factory.

Yep, mine too. Will probably bite me in the ass someday but I free towing for 100 miles or something.

Re: Where is your spare ?
I'll begin the search tomorrow and let you know what I find . Actually,I'm proud to say (for once) that my '72 has a spare up under it mounted on an optional swing-out carrier. Is there air in the tire? Couldn't say. I think it has a pad lock on it and I don't have the key. That will have to come out of there when I lift the truck, change the exhaust, and put 37" tall runner on.
The spare under my '92 has never been removed. The wheel is probably too rusted to use. Most 67-72s I've had still had an ancient bias ply under the bed. I'd think again about laying a spare in the bed loose. Could give you quite a headache. I'd rather take my chances with none like I have for years.

I haven't carried a spare in any of my old stuff for 20 years. I don't even have a spare for my trailer... Just keep good tires on them, check the air pressure, and leave enough room between you and the vehicle ahead of you so you can see any hazardous stuff laying in the road. Now if the cops put out the stop strips I might be in trouble... Edit: I almost forgot. Don't pull your trailer 75 or 80 MPH. I can't tell you how many vehicles I have had pass me doing that and I see them down the road a ways, sitting on the shoulder with a tire grenaded... I just smile and drive on. LockDoc

Re: Where is your spare ?
Eventually it's going back where it belongs, on the fender. Just have to find all the brackets to make it happen.

Re: Where is your spare ?
Mine lays in the bed right now. I'm still debating between the accessory bed mount that I got on the parts board or getting the brackets to mount under the bed. Under will take some work as there are old exhaust brackets welded into the spots where the tire mount attaches.

Re: Where is your spare ?
In-bed spare carrier. The swing away carriers typically seen on K5's can be used on pickups as well.

Re: Where is your spare ?
Mine is in the garage. I cannot seem to fit it into the factory under-bracket. I am desperately looking for a longbed stepside fender with a tire mount.

Re: Where is your spare ?
I love where my spare is. I wish my car was like this too.
I have had 3 flat tires in my driving career, and each I was ready for. I have helped many people change their tires because they were ignorant or unprepared. At least one would have been in a very bad way had things not worked out they way they had (me coming along and stopping). Roadside assistance is great, but like depending on 911, can leave you hanging. I can have my tire changed in under 6 minutes for my car....how long does it take RA to get there? I check my spare tire pressure every other oil change (when I rotate tires). |

I NEVER leave home for any reason without a spare. I check the air in my spare tire EVERY oil change. Sucks on my bride's Exploder but you know what, it doesn't hurt to drop that sucker every once in a while to make sure that A) you can drop it B) it has air C) it isn't so full of sand/salt/mud/clay that you get dirty when you REALLY need to change it because it won't go on the vehicle because of all the neglected stuff caked on there. And I keep up on tire maintenance. And I carry AAA.
