72 2WD Blazer Value

Due to the recent mudslide in Oso Washington my wife's business has pretty much just died (no clients and its now an 1 hr 40 min commute to even get there) and my business has come to a halt while both the wife and I volunteer our time and services helping out our community.

Due to our cash flow stopping and the urgency of finding a short term solution, I feel that we may need to offer up her Blazer for sale and would like input from my online family as to what you think a "real world" value would be.

Its a Converted 72 with a 454, Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers, 3 inch exhaust, Edlebrock intake, HEI ignition, 700R4 trans, 3:73 posi, Factory tach, tilt, AC. it has power windows, several body mods with a relocated handle smooth tailgate, 68 front clip, Dodge Dakota gas filler door, the top has been smoothed.

The bad: I made the mistake of doing a valve job on the 454 without going through the bottom end and it does use a quart of oil about every 500 miles, The AC has not been recharged but is complete other wise. The 700R4 is out of a V6 and you can overpower 2nd gear if you really lean on the throttle (I do have a killer built trans ready to go in, and yes I should do a ring job and rebuild the bottom end of the 454, replace the trans and charge the AC but that is just not an option at this time).

Mark, i have been watching trucks and blazers for a couple months trying to find something to own. Seems like a nice, clean blazer can bring around 10k. (asking prices) With yours being 2wd, BB and i am sure the paint and body are as nice in person as in the pics i will "guess" in the 12k- 15k range. I know when we spoke on the phone you heard of some over 20k from someone, but i am not sure if they are selling at that price. She is a beautiful rig regardless. This is just my opinion and i may be way off as i didn't research this caliber of vehicle much.

Thank you so much for your input. you are in the ball park of what I had been thinking.
I will mention that the pictures do not really do the Blazer justice, I spent way too many hours making sure the body lines were good and lost track of the time I spent block sanding making sure it was straight.

I'd recharge the A/C (at a shop if you don't have time) and ask 22k.... You may find someone to fall in love with it. I think you'd find it easy to sell around the 15-16k mark...

Jonathan, Thank you for your input, As much as I would like to charge the AC, at this time it is just not feasible to make happen, and I may just target an easy/quick sell amount.

I think if the engine-trans-A/C were all up to par, you would be in the upper teens, maybe low 20s.

If you end up needing to sell it, i would try 15k and see what happens.

I see $15k easy. That's with you being honest and forthright about it's short comings. You could be like so many less than honest types as we see on Ebay and elsewhere who would just offer it in the $20s and let the buyer find out on their own. But I know you're not built that way.

I just want to say what has happened there is so tragic and I know that those across a vast area who weren't taken will be effected in a big way for quite a while. It's a tough thing to let this little gem go and I'm sure not an easy thing. But,to do so because you aren't in the shop due to your volunteering is as noble as it gets. Although I'm so far from this tragic event I can feel it's gravity and would like to offer my thanks on the behalf of humanity

Thank you for your thoughts, From the input I have been hearing, both from here and the phone calls I have received the general consensus is a hopeful value of $15-$17K.
For me it is not that difficult to let go of it and not really a big deal, after all its only a vehicle, I can always build another one.

Compared to many in our community who have lost friends and loved ones, we feel very fortunate as we only have been "inconvenienced" by the mudslide and do have resources to help us get through this.

I would like to give a big thanks to all who have helped out in anyway they can, the outpouring of donations, selfless acts of volunteering and the people pouring in from all over the country just wanting to help is almost as overwhelming as the actual event itself. It really rekindles ones faith in humanity.

I have seen the paint and body work up close on this Blazer and it is VERY nice! Mark's work is top notch. $15k no problem

Does the fact that it is converted hurt the value that much?

I watched the build and have seen the detail and would think it would be in the low 20's for a 2wd that is this nice looking.

From my past experience it really does not hurt the value if its a converted one.

I will agree if I rebuilt the short block, charged the AC, it was summer time and I did not really care if it sold or not I would price it in the low $20's and wait for the right buyer.

For me its not a difficult decision to let it go. after all its just a truck, I will admit my wife is a bit sad since it was built especially for her, I reassured her its no big deal, when the time is right I'll just build you something else.
