ELM 327 & app to read MPG

I ordered an ELM 327 wifi ODBII plug in to read codes. I download the app Torque Pro/Engine Link. The ELM 327 wifi works with iphones or ipads. There is a bluetooth version for Andriod phones. On my 8 mile commute to work with no traffic, the 4.3 recorded 17 MPG. Yea!! Over half a tank, it averages 16.75+ MPG. Higher when I drive it on highways. City driving is normally 16.5-17.5 MPG. I'll plug it in on my way home after work. Traffic will be heavy for about half of the 8 miles. I'm sure the average will drop. The app has options to add instantanous MPG. I will try it later at 70 MPH. I'm amazed with even 236,000+ miles, it still does so good. I will check another screen with vaccum/boost. I'm really curious if my ram air setup makes a difference. I can find out by disconnecting the air feed tube to the stock air box.

I'll keep adding pics as I collect more data.

Re: ELM 327 & app to read MPG

Month old bump. Curious to see if you kept working with it and how well it estimates MPG. I have torque pro and the obd scanner and I'm trying to make do with it while saving to replace my gauges after the LS swap. Fuel gauge quit working a while back and I dont want to waste money replacing it when I'll be using all new ones soon.

Re: ELM 327 & app to read MPG

I recorded a few more screen shots from the Jimmy. Unforunately, I just retired it at 236651 miles. Based on my history info on average MPG, it was close. Now, I'm using the ELM326 on my '08 Nitro. It has input from the fuel gauge. My first fill up didn't get a reading of 100%. I read up only 90%. I have to fill it up again and check it. As I was going down the road, the % of fuel in tank was going up. It kept going until I received a phone call which shut off the signal. It was close enough that I could trust info. I need several long trips to estimate if miles to empty is accurate enough. I may need to play around with correction factors to make it more accurate.
