60-66 King Pins

I'd like to rebuild my king pins on my 3/4 ton dana 44. Rockauto.com lists both steel and nylon inserts...which do I have/need/want?

Re: 60-66 King Pins

There is the 44-5f and the 44-5Cfhd, which I believe is the heavy duty. The 5f, that I have in my 62 took the 5/8" cone bearings and cups both top and bottom. I believe the heavy duty version has bushings in the top.

Ok so if I have a 3/4 ton it should be the heavy duty? Rockauto is unclear - the only difference I see for a 1500 1965 is either nylon or metal bushing.

Re: 60-66 King Pins

So there is Moog 8492B and 8294N - which fits my truck?

Sorry for the weird questions but I want the parts before I tear it apart.

Re: 60-66 King Pins

You are talking about a 4x4, right? The moog kits look like 2wd kits

My 62k20 has the 5f, not the heavy duty. You have to get the number. Should be on the pumpkin on a tag or cast into the housing.

Re: 60-66 King Pins

I'm in a similar boat, except I see 2 numbers where the model number is supposed to be,
its a "44 56". I'm getting out the wire brush today and looking for the BOM. shops say its the best way to be 100% sure about what you have exactly

Easy want to determine which axle you have....count the bolts on the seal retainer on the inboard side of the steering knuckle. Standard duty axles (which is most likely what you have) have 8 bolts total. The heavy duty axles had 12 bolts on the seal retainer.

If you have the "standard duty" dana 44 with 8 bolt seal retainer, then the bearings you need for a "king pin" job are:

11520 and 11590. You'll need 4 of each.

4x4 have king pins, but they're a cup/cone style set up with the pins bolting up.
