Re: Border Patrol package?

It looks like its just a bicentennial edition. i've heard them called the spirit of 76 edition too. It's hard to find good info about them on the web though, maybe someone here who has one or has had one will come along.

Re: Border Patrol package?

Everything looks correct to me except the claim about a Border Patrol package.

I'm not familiar with that one; we would build many, many trucks for fleet and municipality useage, like railroads, police (including the Mounties) etc. Typically those trucks were as stripped down as you could get (ie, base trim level, rubber flooring, etc). They were normally in the fleet colors - awful greens or orange or purple - and normally would not include any additional striping.

Re: Border Patrol package?

If it was a Dodge Ramcharger or Plymouth Trailduster it would at least have a chance at being a Border Patrol rig, but it doesn't appear GM did any federal fleet sales back then. Suburban's were occasionally purchased by various agencies, but only because Dodge had nothing comparable.

Still, I'd be curious to know why the seller thought to mention a "Border Patrol package". There must be something not obvious in the photos to make them think so, right?

i have to go with Keith on this. my crew is ex-forestry in that awful green, and they ARE low rent trucks. came with all the good HD stuff, but thats where the bucks STOP! never seen a ex-gov or whatever with a tricked out interior like that ,or the fancy graphics. stylin' one color paint with no chrome anywhere, a rubber mat, & up here, most of the "fleet trucks" usually had a am radio in them. almost all older gov trucks i've seen came equipped like this.
i too wonder what makes the seller say it's a BPP.

Re: Border Patrol package?

I retired as a U.S. Border Patrol agent and I never heard of a "Border Patrol Package" I started in the patrol in 1985 and our 4X4's were always stripped utility type trucks, until about 2001. We started getting some fancy rigs. Before I retired I had a top of the line 2001 Chevy Tahoe, CD player, console, custom green and white 2 tone paint, chrome wheels. I took real good care of it and it served me well. Since retiring the Border Patrol is under Homeland Security and they have some fancier rigs now, so maybe be their is some BPP equipped vehicles out there now, but not way back when. Just sayin.

Re: Border Patrol package?

Yeah most government fleet cars and trucks are super base models lucky to have a radio in it.
