stamped codes on front end???

i just picked up a new disc brake front end...is there any where on it i can find the gear ratios stamped or codes, or do i have to count the teeth...all i found was the 44 thanks - todd

The BOM number is stamped on the front side of the drivers side axle tube starting a couple of inches over from the center section. A Dana/Spicer dealer can tell you the original application and ratio from that number.

You can also get that info at the Dana Corp. web site. The problem is tht they both only go back to 1979 or so. If you want to decode the older numbers, you have to find a Dana Spicer dealer that keeps their old books.
