What drop springs do i need

I have a 68 stepside that came with a straight six/3speed. I am converting it to a suburban gas tank and installing a 5.3/6L80 combo. What size drop springs, if any, would i need to achieve a -3 rear/-1 front drop from stock ride height?

You pretty much answered your own question. I don't know if they make a 1" front drop spring but they may. If your worried about the weight factor and how much it affects it just measure before engine swap and adjust from there. The rear tank shouldn't affect the drop enough to notice so you would be fine with a 3" drop spring, again if they make it. More common 2/4 3/5 and 4/6 I know they make those springs/spindles. Good luck

Just remember your original springs have sagged over the years. If you think you want a 1" drop you may nee a 2". 1, 2 and 3" drop springs are readily available.

You can go with a 1" spring up front for a small block truck, in the back I would think it would depend on if you have a short or long bed. I was shooting for 5" drop in the back if my long bed truck and went with a 4" spring.

I would recommend calling ECE and taking with them, they are the best in my experience.

Re: What drop springs do i need

Thanks for the responses. I am going to order the 2/4 springs. Would I need to install c-notches for a 4" drop in the rear? Lastly does CPP make quality parts? They offer springs and shocks for 300.

Personally I would use ECE.
Look here:

Also check out the "Vendor Review" area of the board for CPP issues.

4/7 drops is what I have, no c-notch. I went with the or re-went with drop spindals in front. Rode like a wagon with drop srings. Now smooth

Re: What drop springs do i need

I went with a 5" drop in the back(4"spring on my long bed).
I was able to haul a good 500lb of tools and BBQ grill with it a couple weekends ago with absolutely no problem and no c notch.

Re: What drop springs do i need

Thank you for the clarification and thanks for the link lolife99.
Would 274/40r20 on 20x10 with a -25 offset be too big for a 2/4 drop?
