help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
another member is in need of a toolbox door so I was going to take mine off for him but unfortunately can not figure out how to get it open. the handle is broken off and I don't know if it's locked and the ignition key does not fit into the lock. anybody have any ideas on how to get it open without destroying it? also based off the pic's is this door even worth messing with looks fairly solid side note the toolbox itself looks to be in excellent condition couldn't see any cracks in it from under the truck.

I don't have my truck here to double check but I think the lock is in the unlocked position. Check this thread out for some pictures. Be sure and look through the whole thread, the pictures are kind of spread out. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=557896 LockDoc

Re: help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
Thanks for that good info at least now I know what's on the other side of that door. Do you think it's worth the trouble since it needs the handle replaced

From the looks of the latch, you should be able to open that by putting a small flat tip screwdriver in and sliding the latch down until it releases. Just don't go hog wild on it and damage anything.

Re: help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
that door is in darn nice shape, a lot better than some around here , like 70custom10 stated , and I would also bath it in penetrating oil , set down and take your time wiggle that tap or pry it up and down , , maybe even a small awl and get it to release , if your friend dosent want it and you chose to sell , let me know its a nice door

Re: help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
to bad the rest of the truck is so roached it was my grandmas longhorn custom camper
this pic is from the late 90's before I took the front clip for my stepside. this one's from last year. I need to get a pic of the passenger side somebody backed up along side something and pushed the entire box in and pushed the box extension into the cab. thanks again for the help unfortunately the truck is 70 miles away sitting in a coulee i'll be back out there in a couple weeks and try to get it off. if the board member I promised it to doesn't want it i'll make sure and throw it in the for sale section along with the toolbox itself

Re: help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
it does surprise me how well it's held up considering the last time it moved under it's own power was real early 80's and I stole the front clip in the late 90's. and it's never spent a day of it's life under any kind of cover. we have lots of barns but they never seem to hide any trucks in them

Re: help opening toolbox door/ is it worth saving
I've had several people pm me about this truck so I took a bunch of pictures of it and I'm going to dump them here. only thing I don't have yet is pic's of the toolbox and door i'll take them tomorrow. was quite surprised at how nice the toolbox ended up being has a small crack in one corner and ended up being the only structural support left in that side of the box.
my hired help
