Question about turning down a truck 4 speed collar to fit passenger car bell housing

I have a mid-80s Chevy a833/MY6 4 speed. I would like to bolt it to a 1957 passenger car bell housing. To do so, I need to turn down the "collar" on the transmission to the passenger car size. Can I just unbolt the collar and remove it, or is there something else that needs to be done when I remove it?

Take those four bolts out and it will come apart.

I think the usual practice is to machine the BH to the larger size. Not sure why anyone would voluntarily use that trans.

Old Truck Man and Franken, thank you for the advice. I will check with my machinist to see if he can turn the collar down. I will enlarge the bell housing if necessary, but I would hate to do that to it because it is original to the car.

I wanted a cheap manual trans with an overdrive. The Chrysler guys have good luck with their A833 transmissions and this should be stronger than a T5. The trans has a Hurst shifter and it's the same length as a TH350 or passenger car Muncie and it uses the TH350 yolk. This will bolt into my car and use the stock linkage and drive shaft.

The gear ratios are similar to a 700R4.
