Rifle value

I know some of you collect guns so.....I have a pre 1964 Winchester 94 30-30 carbine in very good original condition. I'm giving it to my grandson, the kid wants to know it's value. I'm thinking about 400 bucks, what do you say?

I think you cannot put a value on that, it's too sentimental.

Ditto....if he is just going to sell it or something, don't give it to him.

I have several heirloum (sp?) guns....and i would never sell any of them. One came from my dad, another from my grandpa, and another from my great grandpa. None are really worth too much cash, but the sentimental value is through the roof.

Come to think of it....i have only sold one of my guns....and it was one that i paid for, and i sold it so i could afford to buy another gun!

It's just a gun, means nothing to me. I bought it 25 years ago, only fired it a few times to zero it in.The kid is 11 years old, his dad is an avid hunter, I would rather see it used then sit in my closet collecting dust. It'll be his heirloom once I pass to to him, right? I think my son on law told the boy its a piece from the 1930's , so the kid is just asking kid questions.

Impress upon him the concept of owning his grandpa's gun.

I have a pre-64 30-30 too. It was my grandpa's, then my dad's, then mine, and when my oldest boy get's old enough, it will be his. We all have the same name in our names (no, I'm not a 3rd, but I'm the third that has a specific name. It was my grandfather's first name, my dad's middle, my first and my boy's first). It has even more sentimental value because my grandpa died 4 years before I was born.

Hopefully, he will name one of his sons the same and give him the 30-30. Well, that is if the government hasn't made it illegal to own guns by then.

Oh, I also have a gun that was my great-grandfather's. A Savage model 23D 22 hornet. I plan on giving it to one of my other boys when they get old enough.

Anyone have a Savage 23D they want to sell me? I love the gun, but don't wan't to shoot the barrel out because of who it belonged to.

I also have a Ruger Bearcat 22. One of the old ones. It was my dad's. It will go to another one of my boys.

My gun value book shows from $200 to $3000, depending on a lot of factors. Stock carbine w/o saddle rings in very good shape should be around $600. I'll look again tonight.

Well, the kid ain't getting the rifle after all this. A good friend of mine offered me 450 bucks, he just left with rifle in hand. He's will actually use it for it's intended purpose, close range hunting.I feel good about that,I prefer to see old stuff used , whether it's an old truck, gun or whatever. My son in law decided the boy will be just as happy with an old 22 rifle. So that leaves me with just a pump 12 gauge to hold off the Federales when they come knockin on my door. Thanks for all your help, you guys were right on with prices.

I have never heard of increased value with a pre-64 winchester lever action. The pre-64 bolt actions are worth more as they were controlled round feed, and winchester changed to push feed in 65.
