Aftermarket tailgate for my 68 gmc

Hi. Im looking for a new tailgate for my gmc 68 longbed. Wich is the best out there when it comes to fitment and all that?

We are raising the bed floor and we'll cut some sheet metal to fit towords the tailgate pattern. So when I order the new one itll takes 6-8 weeks before its shipped here to sweden so thats why Im curious about the fitment if I can use my original one to pattern the sheet metal with.

I see. Thanks for the input. Im going with the non letters, SKC is little more expensive but that few extra bucks may be the different in fitment ...Going thru the market before ordering one though.

Although I can't remember the manufacturers I would stay away from an aftermarket tail gate if you plan on using it. If it is a show truck and will never be used then aftermarket is fine. First one I put on and then knelt on it to reach inside the bed and creased it along the top! Second one was similar when I sat on it, creased it as well along the top. I'm a heavy guy, but give me a break. I can tap dance on the original one I have now and have put tons of weight on all of the original ones with no problems. Both of my aftermarket ones were non letter ones.

Somebody in another post said they found one that seamed built like the original but I don't remember the name. Still, if you plan to USE it as a tail gate, put weight on it, then find an original one.

My $.02

Mike
