A truck named Joe

Decided to do a build page to keep ya'll updated.. My grandpa and I are doing this resto on the weekends and its been a blast so far! 68' C20 "JOE". Bought this guy for 400 bucks. With you guy's help, I have learned a ton on my truck and have dug in! Any suggestions or additional knowledge helps a ton, as I am a 21 year old that is learning on the spot.

Took off the "Jimmy Rigged" bumper that was welded in any spot you could think of... then we removed the motor.

We got the motor and trans cleaned and painted.

Took 4 days off last week to work on ol' Joe and got a TON of stuff done.. Met Kevin (Undertaker72) to pick up a new front clip and speedometer. Spoke with him for quite some time, learning a ton! After digging into my floorboards I got a little discouraged thinking I was going to need to buy a new cab with a better floorboard.. (More practical than a $400 floorboard). Grandpa and I went and talked with Kevin again and learned quite a bit, regaining some steam. We cut out the rocker panels, cab corners, and a few sections of the cowl panel that had rusted. We also hit the floorboard with a wirebrush and found that the floor boards weren't quite as bad as we thought. New quarter panels ORDERED!

I'm twice your age and I envy you. I bought my truck, in part, as an honor to my grandfather, though he had a '74. I would give my left foot to be able to spend that time with him.

I mean no offense, but I remember how hard it was to see things for what they were when I was your age. Please appreciate this time with him. I have the feeling you will.

Thanks for the kind words! I have enjoyed every second of it and will make sure to not take it for granted. Thanks for the story.. that's been one of the fun things about this project is meeting the way cool people that our old Chevy's bring out. Take care!

And I would give my right arm to be doing something like that with my Grandpa now. He was the coolest guy I ever knew. When I was 15 he lent me $1000 to get a 69' Camaro and let me keep it at his house while I fixed it up. He didn't know much about cars, but he would hang out and give me a hard time when I came over to work on it.

Enjoy this experience, your Grandpa is ok in my book.

Haha! Done? Is that possible? Getting my floorboards done tomorrow and then the sanding begins! That's awesome!! Not too many of us around! I'll subscribe!

Got my cab pulled yesterday so that I could replace some of the floorboard and cab braces/rubbers. Went to harbor freight and got 4 of their moving dollies and flopped my cab on its back to get to work. Got some of the floorboard cut out but the rest will have to wait till next week.. Glad I have the forum to remember what these trucks are supposed to look like

UPDATE: Sunday I got to start working on the truck again! I got the frame completely painted black and then got to work on the floorboards. Not sure if anyone else has had any problems with LMC parts but my floorboards were TERRIBLE.. The amount that I had to reshape them took about three hours to get things to fit correctly. I finally got everything screwed in and ready to mount to the cab for door inspection.

UPDATE: I also had monday off and got to work on my truck again. After looking at some of the floor board, it still required some adjustment. We worked on the driver side floorboard ALL DAY. We finally got it mounted onto the frame. Everything fit for the most part. There is a little bit of excess sheet metal that is hitting where the bottom of the door meets the cab. Hoping to get this finished next week so I can start welding!

Oh, and I had my Girl friend and buddy come and help me. They are starting to be Chevy fans as well!

Nice looking truck and enjoy learning from your grandpa! I'm building a 68 Chevy Truck and I am learning from my dad and enjoying every minute of it. Keep us posted on your truck!!!

Good story here. Glad you were able to meet some members of this board and get some good advise.
I lost my grandfather when I was 16. Never did get the chance to spend quality time with him to work on trucks. Most of the little time I got to spend with him was working on the small farm my Dad had up in Maine.

Well, I'm glad to see someone in Utah is making progress All I've done is get the core support powder coated and push it in and out of the garage

Got my floorboards all welded in this weekend! Next week I'll caulk it and paint the bottom with an undercoating. I have been asking around for prices on paint for my cab. Hoping to get the cab done soon!
