How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
I'm about to install a 1 piece floor pan with all the mounting. Whats the best way to brace the cab to keep the integrity of the cab? Thanks for all the help in advance.
Thanks! |

I'm presuming this is a pickup truck? The reason I ask is that if it is you accidently posted it in the Suburbans and Panel trucks Forum. If that is the case I can move it for you. Let me know.... LockDoc

I cross brace the cab with 3/4 inch conduit, front to back in the door openings, and across the cab, side to side, when doing any major surgery on them. You can kind of see the conduit bracing in this thread when Ron and I replaced the floor pan and part of the rear panel in his '69 4x4.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=490272 LockDoc

Re: How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
I am running the braces across the door and one cross-brace.
This is the main area you need to support to ensure that the doors fit correctly when the new floor is welded in. |

Re: How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
Ok, great. Now, I am putting new cab corners, rocker panels, firewall, and the floor. Is there a particular order that is best. I was thinking about doing the cab corners first, then the rocker panels (Just tacking to cab since new floor not in just yet), then the firewall, and lastly the floor. What do yall think?

Re: How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
Thanks for the input guys. Quick question regarding the cab corners.....if Im putting in a new floor should I put the cab corners in before the new floor? Isnt the back of the cab corners tac welded to the back of the floor?

Re: How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
I would wait to do the cab corners until you are finished with the floor. They should be plug welded to the rear support brace.

Re: How to brace cab when installing 1 piece floor
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm doing the same project and didn't think I should start a new thread.
Does the one piece floor need to be installed from the bottom? Like have the new floor bolted to the frame then drop the cab onto it? The one piece floor is heavy and large, and I can't see getting it into the door opening to drop it down into place

Flameout I did mine with the cab on its back. You don't need to drop it on a mounted floor.
