Steering wheel options

I did a search and did not come up with what I was looking for. What factory wheels will fit the stock columns in our trucks. I want to put something different in my truck than the standard wheel like an Impala wheel and need to know what works so I can start the quest of finding a nice one.
Thanks
Jimmy

Re: Steering wheel options

Thing to watch for is that the spline on the steering column is tapered, which is not the case on all old steering wheels, even the diameter and spline count are the same. And the distance from the back of the wheel to where it bottoms out on the column’s ledge varies.

I started out by buying other 1966 Chevy steering wheels that had better shape/design than the stock, but even those didn’t fit perfect. It’s all trial and error!

As for the diameter that is purely personal. Since I do not have nor plan to add power steering, I went with a larger diameter but shallower dish/set-back.

Re: Steering wheel options

Why don't you guys opt. for a deluxe wheel that could be ordered with the trucks when new./ 1966 deluxe wheel is one year only. 1961 to 1965 has a deluxe wheel and they are nice. They have the horn ring and cap like a car. I'm not sure on the earlier years but the 63 to 65 I know are the same.

Re: Steering wheel options

not in a 66 style but a 67 caprice steering wheel in my 67. I just modified the gmc plastic center to fit in. I cant see why this wouldn't fit a 66 column but don't know for sure. just need to get the wheel repaired and painted. you can also get bowtie centers.

Re: Steering wheel options

Well I have power steering so a smaller wheel would be fine. I like the idea of using a stock wheel from one of the cars that has a little more bling and a 15" wheel. I did find this thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=458581 and a lot of aftermarket wheels in it. Just want to do it the old school way with parts from another car.
