remove parking brake pedal assembly
Im trying to remove my parking brake pedal assembly. Its unbolted from the firewall and inside the cab but I dont see how it comes out. I cant turn it sideways because the studs are still sticking out the cab. and it wont go forward because the dash is in the way.
any idea? |

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
Looks like the ebrake release handle needs to be removed so I can move the assembly up and then forward.
Looks like the handle is riveted to the assembly. grind it off or something easier?? |

Slide the dash end toward the right.

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
ill try that when I head back to the office but I thought I pushed pretty hard on it and the studs keep it from going sideways very far.
thanks |

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
Slide right, drop below dash line, slide back left and pull it out. I don't think the ebrake handle has any influence, but if yours is riveted sideways you might as well fix that anyway, because I'm pretty sure that's not stock.
Remember you don't have to push it far, just far enough to "unhook" the front from the dash. You're not trying to -remove- it out to the right. Check with something before grinding it off....

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
What they said. I replaced mine a couple months ago. Pull the front edge to the right until you can just pull it down from the dash, then straighten back out and rotate down and off the studs. It fits tight and took some muscle.

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
Hi! There are three 9/16" bolts on the far left of the dash (behind it) I you take these out, you should have enough flex to pull it out.

Re: remove parking brake pedal assembly
Finally got mine out of the 1970 tonight as well. One tip, the pedal assembly comes out easier if the pedal is in the UP (brake off) position. Of course the cable should already be removed from the assembly (one cotter pin holding in the clevis pin attaching the cable end to the pedal lever, and remove the nut and bolt holding the cable housing to the forward end of the bracket.
