454 vortce in a 350 tbi truck
Hello all,
Could not find a decent post with a conclusion so here is the question. I have a 350 tbi, 400 turbo, np241 1989 suburban. I have access to a 95 burb with a 454 vortec, 4l80, np241. 1-will the 4l80 bolt to my 241 being a passenger drop vs the driver? 2-will the motor fit considering manifolds and accessories? 3-will it be a computer nightmare? 4-i do not have smog where i live so can some of the emissions come off? 5-in the end is this just not worth it? the OD is more important to me than the 454. I am fine with the small block but it has 240,000 on it so i thought about changing both. any advise or a link to a complete thread would be great. chris |

Re: 454 vortce in a 350 tbi truck
I'd think it's possible but I guessing a lot of work. Did someone switch out your 700r4 tranny at one point? The 4 speed auto OD was your stock unit in 89'....

In my mind the swap should be easy since they are both 241 transfer cases, and you could use the adapter from your old one.
The electrics are not bad from I have seen online since GM use's a dedicated engine harness, and there are a few how-to's online. The 89 to 95 Burbs are not all that different in measurements that I would for see any issue. |

the 700r is one inch shorter than the 400 and would work but everyone says it should not be used for heavy towing. I see them in big HP cars all day long. but maybe the long heavy load is what kills them? |

Re: 454 vortce in a 350 tbi truck
TTT
anyone, I spoke with Harris Performance and he said best to use a TBI set up on the vortec motor, or use a tbi 454. easiest and it can build the power I am looking for. My only real question now is, does a vortec motor have the mounting locations for the accessories, (ac, PS, ALT)? I have a vortec in my newer suburban and everything is very much located in a different place. I am wondering if i can mount my original accessories or will i need to use the vortec stuff and make new hoses and wiring?? Thanks, CHris |

Give Jim a call at http://www.jimsperformance.com He is a super nice guy and a wealth of knowledge on the engine swaps. He can probably answer most of your questions.
