I read a lot of the post and am trying to figure out what oil weight to go to on a 68 307 in North Georgia.

Im hearing the 10w/ anything is bad but 5w/anything is worse and that I should stick to sae30 castoil. Im also hearing words like viscosity which I have no clue what that means...but Im trying.

Will the SAE30 be ok year round? Temps hit mid to upper 90s in the summer and we typically have 3 weeks of 15-25 degree lows in the winter.

Any suggestions?

10w30 year round should be good and personally id run mobil,shell or synthetic if it is new motor. mobil and shell pull thier own oil from ground, then sell the seconds to be used by everyoe else

10w 40 is what i use because of how hot it gets in the summer here in nm but 10w30 should work. on cold days a sae30 is harder on the motor because of the temp. just to break it down the 10 is the weight of the oil when it is cold and 30 is when it is warm. i would only run sae30 in the summer or for race use

i run 10w-40 ...summer highs reach high 90's and winter lows are just a little below freezing ... thinking about switching to 10w-30 and seeing how it runs ....

I've run 10/40 in all my vehicles for a long time with out any problems.......Except of course my Harley.........

i think 10w 30 is about the best all around oil to use,inless you got a new ford and need 5w 20,this time of year i'm puttin 5w30 in custumers cars.

Ive always ran 10w-40 valvoline white bottle motors are always clean as the day they were new inside and never had any problems Alot of folks just say oil is oil might be true might not i think runnin the same type of oil at all times helps But i could be wrong just what i think and do in my own cars

Got mud , I'm 1 1/2 or 2 hours north of you and I run 15w50 mobile 1 full synth. year round and I dont have a problem.

I'm in Springfield, MO and run 20w50 castol year round. the oil light stays on a little longer in the 10 degree weather here in the winter, but it does fine on my old 68 250 c10!

now that my rings are going on my truck i am thinking of going to 20w50
