Search over
As some of you know I've been searching for months for a truck and well yesterday a local ad popped up on CL for a "1966 C10 Pickup body". Turned out to be a lot more than a body as you can see. The asking price was exactly what I sold my old 66 for 20 years ago.
Now I'm on the hunt for a 292 and a four speed. Thanks everyone who tried to help in my search. [/IMG]

Re: Search over
it may have had a 250 in it as the eng perches indicate. you will have to change the passenger side perch for a 292

Re: Search over
Welcome aboard! Nice truck! And I'm always happy to see a new I6 enthusiast! Don't let anyone try and tell you to put a Big block or Small block in. Its cool you live in CA...there are dozens of these trucks out there so a 292 shouldn't be hard to find...plus you live somewhat near Clifford Performance..Bigger intake, headers, 4 barrel..then TURBO TIME!!!! LOL!

Re: Search over
Sorry couldn't resist...I had a original 292 4 speed 3.08 geared 1966 truck (bought by Rene sold to Delmo aka "The Grey Goose"). I now have a 1964 350 HO (GM crate 330 HP) vortec headed 200R4 (OD tranny) with 3.73 posi.
Best mileage with 292 was 14 on Hwy, the 350 gets 15 mpg no problem. And in terms of power I could barely get the 292 up over Pacheco pass at 50 mph with a camper on the back. The 350 will drive 70 mph up the grade no problem. Why go for the inline 6? |

It's been 20 years since I sold the truck so I can't remember much else about the power and I have no idea what the gearing was. Anyone have thoughts on how the truck might have been set up to do that kind of top speed? I don't remember the motor being modded seem to recall it being pretty stock. I'll be happy with this one if it can cruise 70-80 on the freeway and I could care less how it comes out of the hole. Thanks
