72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
Hello all. I just acquired a really decent 72' Chevy step van and I see the tires are 7.50R16LT. I know that is 16 inch wheels, but how wide are they? The reason I ask is I want to put some spiffier chrome wheels instead of the stock wheels. Bigger width will give me better handling right? So what are the min. and max. for this vehicle? Can someone help with this? Also, any good places online where I might find some cool wheels to swap the old ones out? So far I just see wheels for regular vehicles, not these larger commercial trucks. Thanks!

Re: 72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
Welcome to the forum!! I do believe the factory wheels were 16"X 6" and it is pretty much the "standard" for dually wheels.
Here is a link to a bunch on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...rims+16&_frs=1 |

Re: 72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
Thanks Livrat. I will check out the eBay link. This vehicle is not a dually, but I was wondering if I could throw 2 on the back for extra load capacity. Maybe I can ask that in another thread.

Re: 72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
My apologies, Since it was a P30 (1 ton) I assumed it was a dually, it being "single wheeled" opens up a whole new possibility of wheel choices, Here are a few examples from ebay.

Re: 72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
Thanks Livrat. Is it possible to put 2 wheels on the back? Or is it just a single? I am still getting familiar with this vehicle. Would be nice to increase the load capacity.

Re: 72' Chevy P30 Step Van wheel question
I honestly do not know if that is possible with the rear end that is in it. I do believe the dually rear axle is narrower than yours to allow for the dual wheels.
Maybe someone else here on the board with chime in with an answer. |
